Im upgrading some stuff, and need advice

Hey. I want to put two 512mb sticks of ram into my laptop. I'm having a hard time finding any near me. Any that my laptop can use that is.

I need to know if my laptop can use DDR2, because that would open up more options for me. I know it uses PC2100 DDR, and I can use higher levels of PC, like 2400 or 2700 or whatever. But I don't know if I can use DDR2.

I also want to upgrade my BIOS, but thats turning out to be whole other pain in the ass.

    Help me

Well if you goto your manufacturers website it should have the manual for your laptop which should indicate what memory it is rated for. I don't deal with laptops, but every motherboard I have ever bought has stated what memory it is rated for.

You could try to find a online parts retailer that has no stocking fee, Newegg has a 15% stocking fee for returned memory, so I would do a little research on your Laptop manufacturers site to find out what it supports first before buying.

As for upgrading the BIOS it is always a chore, and a bit harder to do on a laptop. Really unless you need something specific from the upgrade to be able to use something on your laptop, there is no reason to upgrade the BIOS. It's not typically worth it unless you there is something in the upgrade you need, and not just to upgrade it.

      Okay, thanks ttc

I only wanted to upgrade the BIOS because crucial.com suggested I do so before upgrading the memory.
