The Mother 3 fan translation is almost complete. I've got this sneaking suspicion that Earthbound will appear as soon as Mother 3 is translated and then Nintendo will announce a DS version causing starmen.net to halt their progress.

Then Mother 3 DS won't be released for another 2 years.

I prefer VC releases, really. they play and look just like the originals, but there's no internal batteries to die.

However if the console dies and they no longer support it thier is nothing you can do about it.

if the console dies, you have nintendo move your licenses to a new system.

your Wii licenses can be linked to your "my nintendo" account for added security.

I doubt nintendo is going to abandon the virtual console after the Wii. I'm sure it's going to be part of all their systems going forward. and it makes complete sense that you'd be able to transfer your old VC library to their next console and keep adding to it.
