I Need Good Horror Film Reccomendations.

recently, I haven't seen one single horror film that has scared the **** out of me. Every new horror film that is released seems bland and uninteresting. That Mirrors movie? No thanks.

Got any good recommendations? A good story is a plus.

Oh! What about The Orphanage? That sounds scary, how is it?

If you're asking for recent horror flicks, I can't help you. Like you said, they all look bland and uninteresting.

I can recommend the classics, like The Shining or Alien, which you've probably already seen.

Personally, the first time I saw Ringu(and not The Ring) I was creeped out for about a week after seeing it. Also, The Day After and Threads both caused me to lose sleep.

I also like Jacob's Ladder, but I personally didn't find it scary because when I was watching it, all I could think was "This stuff inspired Silent Hill. Awesome."

Lindsay watched The Ruins and was screaming and stuff throughout the whole thing, so I guess maybe that. I only watched bits of it because I think horrors are stupid. She had nightmares though. But she does any time she watches a horror movie, no matter what movie it is. It was very bloody and gory, so if that's your thing, then this is my reccomendation I guess.

A few good classics are The Thing and Saw. And if you really want to be grossed out. Audition.
Find a dog, honk it's nose. If you are bothered by this sentence. I guess you're just not cool enough for the noses.

Every Halloween movie besides the 3rd one.... If you're like me, you'll be freaked out for years. (I'm still afraid to look into bathroom mirrors)

            Suspiria.

I loved Jacob's Ladder, too. But I think The Sixth Sense unfortunately kinda retired it. Uh, see The Sixth Sense. And sorry Riot I think the American Ring is wayyy better than Ringu (though they're both disappointing).

28 Days Later is a ****ing classic. And so is The Mist (though lots round these parts will disagree).

The Hills Have Eyes remake is surprisingly brutal and intense.

Uh if you're trying to be scared though. I dunno good luck. It's a movie.

Here are some on my list, in order from most to least scary. Most of these I haven't seen since I was a child though, so they may not hold up well to a desensitized America.

The Shining (scary - I never can get comfortable while watching this - the SFX are unnerving)
Psycho [w/Anthony Perkins] (scary - used to make taking a shower difficult, no... seriously)
The Silence of the Lambs (scary in a psychological way)
Seven (more so twisted than scary, but good)
28 Days Later (really tense, for me at least)
Poltergeist (scary in a weird way)
              The Exorcist (creepy)
30 days of night (not really scary, but entertaining)
              The Grudge (questionably scary)
              The Ring (questionably scary)

*The Japanese originals of The Grudge (Ju-on) and The Ring (Ringu) are much better than the American counterparts. America always feels the need to add cliches. Japanese horror also doesn't always feel the need to have music every minute of the movie. There is a lot of really uncomfortably quiet scenes in the originals. A Tale of Two Sisters (a Korean film) is good too.

If you watch The Orphanage looking to be scared, you will be very disapointed.

                      Alien
                      The Shining
                      The Descent
                      High Tension
                      Rosemary's Baby
The meta Nighmare on Elm Street I forget the name of right now (Dream Master? Dream Child?)
                      Repulsion (does that count?)
                      Teeth (does that count?)
                      Funny Games (does that count?)
                      Hard Candy (does that count?)

The last four are more psychological thrillers in a horror framework of sorts.

Maybe we shouldn't keep recommending The Shining and Alien over and over... I think he gets the picture.

That little 'jingle' creeps me out every time.

Yeah, but if a topic about horror films comes up, and I DON'T mention those two, I would have to disown myself.

Also, the more they are mentioned by different people, the more likely Duel is to take creedence in their recommendation.

I second that (If you mean the 1980s version, the 1950s one is okay). It's probably the only horror movie besides Alien that I ever would want to watch. The special effect are... well, considering this movie was made in the early 80s, the special effects are brilliant.

That aside, the only horror movies I really like are the older ones from like... the 50s or something. They didn't rely on blood and gore. Just suspense.
