    Listen to this:

Not to be confused with the "what are you currently listening to" thread, I'm aiming toward a more active approach rather than "I'm listening to _____ hope you know what it is". So post a link of an audio file, a YouTube video, whatever--and tell us what it is.

I heard this song on the radio the other day on my way home from work. It's by Fountains of Wayne (from "Stacy's Mom" fame) and it's about two people who managed to get successful careers, however they are desperately lonely and unhappy.

Okkervil River is releasing a cover track of each of the songs on their new album, up until the albums release in September.

The first cover is of Lost Coastlines by A.C. Newman (The New Pornographers) and featuring Will Sheff (Okkervil River)

      Mellowdrone - Fashionably Uninvited

I ripped this CD from a friend a few years back, along with a ton of others. This remains one of my favorites from his collection.

      Andrew Bird - Plasticities

A live performance by the talented Andrew Bird. I wish I could whistle like that.

        Re: Listen to this:

The Fountains of Wayne song was alright. Pretty simple pop rock.
The duet was awesome. Will Sheff is a dreamboat.
The Mellowdrone song was pretty. I'd like it better without the loud anthem chorus.
The Andrew Bird song was also pretty. Again, with a harder rock ballad chorus. Eh. Amazing performance, though.

Jens Lekman - Your Arms Around Me
I think this song's really sweet. Charmingly, endearingly sweet.

          American Football - Stay Home

(the visuals have nothing to do with the song, by the way, it's just kaleidoscope stuff)

This song is pretty repetitive, but it's very calming. I listen to it sometimes when I'm feeling sad about something.

EDIT: Now I'm listening to something most people that aren't living under rocks should know.

          Gary Numan - Cars

I can't get enough of it.

I Love Your Existence - Goot!
Just for reference I put the song name first, not the artist. Thats just how I do it.

The American Football song wasn't bad. Some nice sleepy melodic music.
That Goot song was pretty bad. Everything about it. The cliche lyrics, that emo singing style. Kind of makes me nauseous.

The Boy Least Likely To - Be Gentle With Me
One of the cutest songs I can think of. Awwwww.

                Regina Spektor - Us

I'm in love with Regina Spektor. {{{{{{{{=3

Edit: Guess I could SAY something about it. It's uh... music. Mostly done by her. She bangs on drums with her right hand while playing piano/keyboard with her left. Does all kinds of weird stuff during her songs. This song doesn't really display any of that, but this is my favorite.

That "Jens Lakman" song was pretty good. I liked it.

"The Boy Lest Likely To" really got on my nerves at first but I kept with it, and well, it was charming and all (I know what you mean by cute). But nothing I'd probably ever listen to in my spare time.

                    AFI - This Time Imperfect

EMO SONG. I really, really like it though. Just put it in the background and ignore the stupid cutesy-goth pictures. I could've linked a KH fan-**** video but this one is less annoying.

Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round

I had to post this. The video is unbelievably creepy.

Regina Spektor is great for a minute or two. Then she's just irritating.
                      Good video, though.
I don't know about Vladmir Vysotsky, but that was some pretty passionate
                      and creepy singing.
Emo song was emo. Not bad, but I'm not a fan of those dramatic ballads.
I was really into the Dead or Alive song and video for a while.
Catchy as hell, with that dance and the hair and oh my.
Pete burns only gets creepier with age. And cosmetic surgery.

Sergio Mendez and Brazill 66 - Day Tripper
Picked up this record on a whim, not knowing it had a Beatles cover on it.
                      Some great bossa nova ****.
Everything about this song and video is stylish as hell.

                      also

Jens Lekman - You Are The Light
                      Another lovely romantic hit. Mmmm.

Hey! I'm watching all of these so keep it up guys.

Here's a translation of the Vysotsky song to go along with my last post:

How I'll see it now, how I'll breathe it in?
Air is harsh before the lightning, harsh and choking.
How I'll hear it all today, how I will sing.
From the fairy tales the wise birds are singing.

The bird Sirin is joyfully grinning,
                            Making happy, calling from nests.
And against him is now despairing,
Wounds the soul the strange Alkonost.

                            Just like seven promised strings
                            Ring without stop -
                            Thus the bird Gamayun
                            Imparting hope!

In the blue sky, pierced with belltowers,
                            Copper bell, copper bell,
Will be joyful or will be sore.
Russian cupolas are dressed in pure gold
That the good Lord would notice them more.

I stand, like before an timeless mystery,
                            Before great and fairy-tale country.
Before salty - bitter - sweet and sour land
Blue, spring-water, and full of rye.

Eating dirt fat till the rust,
                            Horses go down till stirrups,
But they pull me with sleepy great power
That has rotted, bloated from sleep.

The soul, beaten with losses and sorrows,
The soul, torn till it's narrow,
If till blood the cloth has been worn,
I will patch with the golden patches
That the good Lord will notice it more.
Anyways, the best emo band of all time:
