Ok, how does this work? I know there was an article on the old Pavilion about this long, long, ago, but the Pav these days doesn't have any of the old articles that had tips about game creation and balance anymore. I remeber reading it, but I don't remeber how it's supposed to work. Didn't see an infor on it over at the Mag either. And I finally remembered to ask about it (I keep forgetting). I'm not sure if I'm going to need it for the game I'm working on, but I'd like to know how to do it if I need it.

Re: The multiple system data trick
just keep the new system data the same name and you should be fine. you will need to prompt the player to save and have them reset the console and load up using the second scenario data. on the new card you have to have something in the spot they saved. some things will not translate over well such as learned skills. if you learned a skill and it changed in the second card, it will show up as new skill or as whatever it was replaced with i think. there are other changes but i dont know what they are exactly.

So you need to use another scenario data as well to pull this off?Originally posted by Karr Lord of Chaos View Postjust keep the new system data the same name and you should be fine. you will need to prompt the player to save and have them reset the console and load up using the second scenario data. on the new card you have to have something in the spot they saved.
That's kind of trival though. Switching scenarios isn't that difficult, but you need to be careful if the player can cross repeatedly between two scenarios, since stuff like treasure chests can be looted repeatedly.
And I was thinking about how this might work, and I suspected it was something like this anyway.
Yeah, replacing stuff like characters, skills, items, magic, etc. would probably screw things up royally. And I'm guessing all this needs to be duplicated exactly, most importantly, the stuff needs to be in the exact same spots as before, so item 1 on system card 1 needs to be the same item on system card 2.some things will not translate over well such as learned skills. if you learned a skill and it changed in the second card, it will show up as new skill or as whatever it was replaced with i think. there are other changes but i dont know what they are exactly.
Though as I think on it, this could be used to tweak things a tad too. Suppose the game has a major event in the middle somewhere where the switchover takes place. Maybe a devastating catastrophe occurs or something. So on system card two, maybe all the item prices take a massive leap upward, because the disaster caused major inflation. Or maybe soemthing happens that makes the weapons stronger. Maybe it won't work that way, but I'll play with it, and see what happens.

Bah, you two post just as I was writing my reply.
You don't have to jump on it right away Valk, I don't need it right now. Just add it to the to-do list of the site.Last edited by orius; 08-18-2008, 12:14 AM.
