GaoGaiGar-What is it and why should I care?

I've heard Crunk and Valk talk about it enough that when I was in Best Buy today and saw something called King of the Braves GaoGaiGar in a green box set labeled "Bullet X Box" for $25, I took the plunge and purchased it. Thing is, I really kinda have an aversion to to Mecha/Giant robot-style anime, and I seem to remember that this is the type this series is. But for $25 for 25 episodes, I figured I'd give it a chance. But what can you (ie-Valk/Crunk) tell me about it before I open it that might make me not want to return it to Best Buy, as it was kinda an impulse purchase? Oh, wait...everything I buy is an impulse purchase.


Anyway, feel free to discuss, please.

What's better? A lot of people say Gurren Lagann is better, but everything after the "fake ending" half way through gaogaigar is just too damn overwhelmingly awesome for anything to compete, not to mention a complete surprise. and then FINAL's ending really sealed the deal. I've seen gurren lagann all the way through to the end, and nothing in it comes close to gaogaigar's top moments. the only thing that could top it would be yet another GGG series, but project Z was cancelled.

also, it's the only show I've ever seen where the re-used animation never, ever gets old.
