How do you define "smart"?

Obviously, peoples' opinions can differ greatly, and over the years, I've heard a lot of different definitions for the term smart.

I'm just curious to hear the Pavilionites' definitions of the term.

For someone to be considered smart by me they must have a high level of knowledge(specialized or general) and a decent grasp on how to use that information. Having a lot of knowledge and no application is well-read, not necessarily smart. If you're good at learning/solving problems then you're intelligent, but intelligence doesn't always translate to smart.

Rather than just knowing a lot about anything. Smart to me is all in application. Like being able to deal with a situation calmly and effectively or improvising to solve a problem.
