    The Mana/Evermore debate rages on!

And Tim Rogers is on my side. Warning: New Games Journalism!

Over at Action Button Dot Net (who some people hate and maybe they have a good reason?) Tim and Co are compiling a list of the 25 best games ever and true to form it's pretty unconventional.

Clocking at number 22 is Secret of Evermore and in the accompanying article Tim explores why Evermore is so good and proposes some unsupported and vague reasons why Secret of Mana supposedly sucks. It's a good read!

See also: articles on Dragon Quest and Breath of Fire.

Tim Rogers knows how to be unconventional and a blowhard like no one's business.

I agree that Tim rambles on like it's his ****ing job or something but god help me I love him.

I think it's because our tastes skewer in the same direction and he defends the games I defend with far more smug intellectualism than I could ever muster.

Yeah but then, after six pages of ruminating on the jellied toast he ate for breakfast, he'll skewer a perfectly fine game for no other reason than to inspire fanboy ire.

          Hm. Sounds familiar. :3

I just couldn't get into Evermore. Maybe I could now if I set aside a pocket universe where I Was Interested in Playing Secret of Evermore.

I played Mana a summer ago and it's still a fun multiplayer game even if it's broken by how unbelievably powerful the Sprite's magic is.

I'm guessing that's what Rogers writes about.

I'm reading this Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G review now. It sounds appealing, and in the back of my skull was the itching thought "Gosh, is this game as good as everyone says?" Japan sure seems to love it.

But it's not out in America is it?

I loved Evermore and I've never played Mana so I can't judge that one. Wouldn't be fair

Saw it at my local gamestop, so I'd say yes. I thought about buying it, but then I remember the first one and pass.

I liked both but Mana is clearly a better game than Evermore. I suppose one could argue Evermore's quirkyness should give it the edge over Mana's tradition, but that's a reach.

                  Plus Mana had subways.

Edit: Just having Dragon Quest 5 on there makes me want to kick them in the balls.

The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G isn't the same as Monster Hunter Freedom 2, I don't think.

Gloom, do you hang out in Starbucks and play with fellow Monster Hunters face-to-face as you discuss wedding gifts?

I dont want Monster Hunter 3 on the WII.

Its just going to be rehashed EVERYTHING from the last games, but with some new weapons, and new monsters, and maybe a couple new features. I want me sum "next gen" looking monsters to fight, with more than 5 different moves, that have good AI.

But why do that when you can slap on a few new things, and call it a sequal. Its what they've been doing since the first one. :"(

                              'cause it's Capcom.

You'd get that on ANY system.
