Aww, man. My laptop crapped out on me.

It broke. System restore doesn't work. I'm sad because I lost a lot of files. A LOT.

Any advice on what the good models are to buy for a reasonable ($400-$700) price?

I have *most* of the stuff I want backed up, I'd say I'm going to lose about 10% of my music though.

I got a TROJAN HORSE. By downloading a fake version of Spyboy Search & Destroy.

My laptop died on me... TWICE. I think mine was a hardware problem though. And just today my second PS2 has started not working. I have all the luck.

Anyway, I'd also like recommendations on good sub $1000 laptops. I don't expect or even want a powerhouse, but I'd like something that could at least handle some games (Sims 2, CoH, WoW, Spore, etc).

i managed to clear a trojin off my labtop. use a second computer to get the files you need such as a trojin cleaner and then install them from a disk if you can (if its preventing you from downloading something from the net). if you tell us whats going on with it perhaps we can help you fix it.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Re: Aww, man. My laptop crapped out on me.

I'm thinking it's beyond repair. I did a destructive System Restore and it only went half-way when installing Windows. This happened 4 times before I decided to call it quits.

So even if I was able to get the right tools to fix it it'd do me no good because I can't even get the thing running in safe mode even. It's dead.

And I lost 80 bucks at the Casino today when trying to get money for my laptop fund. Psh. Serves me right...

                D-double post update!

I just bought a Toshiba laptop only minutes ago. But I'm a little worried...

... AMD Turion X2 RM-70 Dual Core Mobile Processor
                ... 3 GB RAM
                ... 200 GB Storage
                ... Built-in Wireless G
... "Labelflash" CD burner (wasn't able to find the burn/write speed of the drive, however)
                ... Built-in webcam

The processor is what worries me. How would it stack up compared to the Intel Core Duo processor? Because it was a toss us between this one and a Sony Viao with one less Gig of RAM and the Intel Core Duo processor. I hear that battery life is suppoused to be better for the Intel, that much I know.

All and all this set me back $750.

ahhhhwha? I've had an AMD in my desktop for years now, never had a problem with it.

Sweet. I just wish I didn't have to put $250 of the purchase on a credit care. I'll have the money by the end of the month, though. I hope.

I got a dead pixel. I tried fixing and and it won't budge.

It's within 14 days and I really don't want to return it after spending nearly two days getting my computer to where I want it with downloads and putting my music back on it.

This kind of sucks. The thing is out-of-the-box, 2 days old and it has a dead pixel.

This is what I dont understand about people. They buy a cheap computer/laptop to last them 3-4 Years. When that one kicks they buy another one, and another. Why not just buy an XPS? Its probably 1,699$-2,399$.

you just answered your own question!

I wouldn't bother with a dead pixel unless it was really, really annoying

I might try calling Toshiba, talking to the lead supervisor or something like that. Maybe I can get it fixed if I ***** enough. As it stands now though, it ****** me off but I'm not gonna let it ruin my day.

And Heroic, if I bought something top of the line, it'd just become something "adequate" within 2 years. Computer technology is constantly evolving so I don't see why someone would want to splurge on the best of the best. After all the one I bought 3 years ago was pretty good for it's time and is CRAP now.
