    Self Improvement

Two of my biggest shortcomings is that I never follow through with anything, and I often let opportunities pass me by. Like most other people, there are things I want to do but just don't because they are either too hard, not motivated enough, too nervous to try etc...

So I have made a list of things I want to do to better myself. I feel that they are fairly realistic goals, some common and maybe some not so common. I don't know what kind of timeline to put on these, 5yrs? 25yrs? Lifetime? I don't know. But these are all things I have wanted to do regardless, but never have.

    In no particular order:

    1) Quit Smoking
    2) Lose weight/eat healthy
    3) Exercise regularly
    4) Get my Gr.12
    5) Take a computer course
    6) Finish an RPGM project of mine
    7) Start listining to classical music
    8) Learn to draw and/or paint
    9) Go to the opera
    10) See a play
    11) Read poetry
    12) Write something, wether it's good or not
    13) Start reading books other than sci-fi/fantasy
    14) Learn to play a musical instrument
    15) Go to a museum
    16) Take a course on anything that interests me, even if it won't become a career
    17) Take a camera with me and photograph things of interest
    18) Visit various churches of various religions and educate myself
    19) Learn to have more patience
    20) Learn to control my temper
    21) Stop being a judgemental person
    22) do random acts of kindness for random strangers
    23) volunteer for something
    24) Play chess
    25) Learn a different language
    26) Stop apologizing for things
    27) Stop swearing
    28) Stop making excuses
    29) Stop aspiring and start doing

So how about you? I'm sure everyone has things they've always wanted to do but put off for whatever reasons.

Also, feel free to make any suggestions you may have.

Which one doesn't belong? #26? You Won!

anyways, thats a LOT of stuff listed that you dont really want to do, and a lot of those are long term commitments, more then likely you'll lose interest before you finish them.

I'm the same way, and Ive done something similar to this, and never really finished anyth

Here I come Pav, like the Kool-Aid man barging into a funeral! Oh yeah!

By not apologizing for things, I mean stop apologizing for things that aren't my fault.

And how do you know I don't want to do the things I listed? Hmm? Hmmmm? Hmmmmm??

        Im just kidding with you.

good luck anyways, wipe them off the list when you complete them, quite a few of them can be done within a day.

"learn to have more patience" not patients.

Self improvement is a good thing. If you write something down, you're more likely to do it. Here's some things I want to get done...

          1) stop wasting time...there's always something to do.
          2) run semi-regularly
          3) get into the shape I know I'm capable of
          4) cut down spending
          5) be happy for what life gives you, I'm happy to have lived this long
          6) stop comparing myself to others so much
          7) finish more creative projects
          8) always get excercise, an hour of excercise is more important than an hour of sleep!
          9) take better care of myself in general
          10) start the day with some lifting

            6) Amen. If I could do that, everything else would be gravy.
            8) I dunno, more and more studies are saying sleep is pretty damn important. I guess if you're choosing between an extra hour of sleep or an extra hour of exercise, go with exercise, but not if it's at the expense of necessary sleep.
So you're a fish out of water...
            Keep swimming.
            What else can you do?

                  Re: Self Improvement

                  1) Gain self-esteem.
                  2) Seek professional help for #1.
                  3) Pursue a career related to the degree I'm about to finally have.
                  4) Get my own place.
                  5) Get a license, then a car.
                  6) Exercise and eat better. Nah, I don't really care about that stuff.
                  7) Start caring about my health. Stop looking forward to death. (#1 should help with that.)
                  8) I should stop procrastinating so much, everntually, I guess.
                  9) Write for a virtual series on MZP.
                  10) Learn to socialize like normal people. Again related to #1.
                  11) Learn to play a musical instrument.
                  12) Develop an interest and recreational skill in a sport.

                        1. Stop comparing myself to ideals that by doing so actually undermine who I am
                        2. Lift regularly, eat more and more healthy (Been doing the later)
                        3. Actually make an effort to learn some guitar which has yet to happen
                        4. Pleasure read again, regardless of reading stack for classes
                        5. Develop writing talent
                        6. Drink less (been doing)
                        7. Form a coherent plan with what to do with remaining classes, identify what I'll do once I graduate (grad programs, internship programs, something)
                        8. Stop feeling so attached to him.
                        9. Branch out, meet new people and new circles.
                        10. Get over insecurities towards some things that keep me from being as impressive as I could be.
