Whuh? So basically my dad's parents, Bob and Leona Ehrfurth (above, aged mid-70s), have been plagued by a mysterious noise-vibration in their home for the last two years.
They feel it's been taking a toll on their health. No one's yet been able to figure out what the sound is or where it's coming from. And, naturally, the city's not been able to fund and conduct a proper acoustic inspection because they're tied up in red tape.
Their oddball story was eagerly embraced by the internet. Typing in "Ehrfurth" and "noise" into Yahoo yields close to 20,000 results.
The original local-news article: (link). The response was so fabulous that they issued a follow-up story: (link).
Online commentators have kindly provided an endless litany of possible causes and explanations, ranging from plausible to dopey. Some super-sleuths have linked it to paranormal activity. Still others predicted with dismay that some would link it to paranormal activity.
As for me, my hope is that the story has appeared in enough paranormal news blogs that some benevolent Scully will rise up to find the rational, scientific explanation just to prove Mulder wrong.
Or that they will soon be aided by some local city official who, upon discovering that he has only one year to live, will vow dramatically to overcome the inertia of bureaucracy for the public good, ala the movie Ikiru.

Of course, what would two elderly people want with a bounce house of fun?
