    REALLY Stupid Oblivion Question.

So the last few days I decided to start playing Oblivion again, I've just been so busy and I kept putting it off.

I decided to start a new character because I lost track of what was going on in my previous save file.

After I completed bringing the amulet to Jauffre, I went on my quest as normal. I read in the book though that you can get a horse from Jauffre's assistant, so I traveled back to Weynon to get the horse. I asked Jauffre's assistant about it and he gave me his horse, which was really sweet.

Anyway, I had some shopping to do, so I went back to the Imperial City. I dismounted my horse and went inside, and I got a message that my horse was moved into the stables.

When I exited the city, I went to the stables and got on my horse. I was called a thief and was arrested. WTF?

So I figured that I needed to pay them for taking care of my horse or something so I reloaded my save and I put my horse in the stables myself. I did my shopping, and I came back out and this time I talked to everyone first to make sure it was okay to take my horse back, but there was nothing about my horse listed, so I got on my horse and decided to ride away. Again, I was called a thief and arrested.

What the hell? Can I not shop at the Imperial City without losing my horse?!

There is probably something really dumb I forgot to do but I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Well, I guess the obvious question is: are you sure it's the right horse? When you walk up to it, it says Maborel's Horse?

If you're sure that's right, then maybe something's glitched? I don't know what else it would be.

EDIT: Actually, yeah, it looks like it might be a bug.

        It said "Maborel's Paint Horse".

Okay, I looked into this further and here is what I have so far.

I loaded my save on my new horse, and I looked at the stats and there is no bounty on my head. When I dismount the hourse and put the cursor over it, the horseshoe icon isn't red, which means the game recognizes its my horse.

If I go to the stables outside the Imperial City, dismount my horse, enter the city, and come back, the horseshoe turns red when I try to select the horse, meaning that mounting it would be stealing it.

What version is it? PC version or Console.

'cause if it's PC you can just use a console command to change ownership.

PC. It's kinda silly though because it shows as mine (I think, how do you tell?) until I let it go to the stable.

Is there something I'm supposed to do, to admit my horse to the stable or something?

if its a legitimate bug, chances are installing the unofficial oblivion patch will fix it.

Unofficial Oblivion patch? Does that have any bad effects? Oblivion is working very well for me (80fps) and I don't want to do anything to make it load slower or anything because right now its running fast.

Do you have the official patches already installed?

I have never put the unofficial, but most people would reccomend to never play without it. Only reason I don't use it is because I have 70 other mods installed that tweak stuff.

The official patches are already installed. I have the Shivering Isles expansion but I don't have Knights of the Nine.

The unofficial oblivion patch fixes some 2,000 bugs in the game that the official patches don't touch.

personally, I would just reccomend going to a town and buying another horse.

You could also just take the horse and run away.

What's the fun in playing a game that gives you FREEDOM and abiding by the rules and being a good-two-shoes?

That's like following the traffic signals in GTAIV. Maybe Duel does it, but I don't see the point. I follow the rules IRL, and if I'm playing a game that gives me the chance more likely than not I'm gonna be a jerk and do whatever I want.

Honestly, I've never cared much for the horses in Oblivion. I was never sure why people liked them at all. But yeah, there are a lot of patches out there. TESNexus has a few that I saw when I was looking for cool mods.

The mods I like are the ones that unlevel the world (levels are not based on your level, but assigned from the get go, making the world much more dangerous), and the natural rings limit mod (number of wearable rings based on Intelligence stat.
Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.
