I think my 360 is going to die soon.

So I just bought Overlord on a whim. I started up my 360, and after about 2 minutes the screen went black and there on my 360 was the bane of all 360 owners - The Red Ring of Death.

After spouting a couple expletives, I turned the system off, waited a few seconds, and turned it back on. It worked just fine. So far.

So....has anyone had the RRoD and not had their console fail on them subsequently? Should I resign myself that I will soon have to send it off to be repaired? Does it matter that I think I've misplaced my receipt? How easy is it to send it off? And how long will it take?

It's happened to mine before and it still works fine.

I've gotten two false alarms, twice. One was from a power surge and another because the cables were loosely connected. So bear in mind it may not always be horrifying. They're suppose to last much longer since they're now built so the heat sink isn't over the disk tray amongst a few other tweaks. Still the first one I got lasted just under a year and I was able to trade it in to the now Defunct Gamestop warranty.

Your receipt shouldn't matter. They send you a box, we sent ours in and within a week got a brand new one.

Do they still only do them if they are under the 3 year thing? Or do they still take in and fix all of them for free?

The three year thing allows you to get the RRoD fixed.

If you're **** out of luck yours breaks because of the ****ty ****ing design, some spindle **** comes loose, and they won't fix it for you even though it won't read the discs. Oh, and it sucks.

According to the various testimony (and two personal experiences) the rrod rarely destroys your xbox on the first offense. My 360 didn't poop out on me until almost 4 months after getting the first crash.
