After years and years of analog cable, we finally moved to digital. I must say, it's vastly better than what we had before. We finally have a TV guide on-screen, we finally have 200+ channels, and we can finally watch TV shows in wide-screen HD. We don't have a DVR, but that doesn't really matter to me. While all this is great, there are some draw-backs. Our Sony TV can't swich to wide-zoom when shows on HD channels display in 4:3, and sometimes the picture lags. Other than that, it's been pretty good.

Re: We just got Direct TV.
Because I'm too lazy to poke around myself, let me ask you, you of the supposed super powers...we've got Dish Network (DVR, standard def with only RCA, S-video, and coax outputs), and I'm REALLY scared to hook it up to my 1080p TV because I just KNOW it'll look like garbage. So, if you also have standard def, is it able to output the HD shows on broadcast TV in high def, or do you need a high def box for that? I know you need to pay extra for the regular HD package and box, but does normal broadcast stuff output in high def? If so, I'm guessing you're using the coax cable to receive these broadcasts.
Maybe if I poke around, there will be an HD version of the network stations on there somewhere. I know on the TVs at work, the HD stations end in point one (2.1 for CBS, 5.1 for NBC, and 7.1 for ABC). Or maybe I need to tune my TV to a point one station, and it'll automatically output. I'm not sure. I know I can find the answer if I just poke around and play with stuff, but I'm lazy.

Re: We just got Direct TV.
I don't really understand your question Perv, but I'll try to answer it anyway. We have two standard-defintion boxes and one HD box. When watching channels on the standard-def boxes, the HD channels aren't availible to watch. When watching TV on the HD box, you can watch everything in HD. The SD channels are upconverted to HD by the HD box. You need an HD box to view broadcast HD channels (because the SD boxes don't have componet-outs nor HDMI-outs). Hope that helps.Twothorp was in immense pain. The blisters did not care.
