    PSP/UMD question

I just recently bought a bunch of UMD movies from Gamestop (go ahead and laugh if you must) for between $5 and $10, and one of them was the pilot episode(s) of Lost from season 1. Now, I've seen the DVD of these episodes on a standard def TV using a regular DVD player, on my old 720 TV using both upconvert DVD and my PS3, and on my new 1080p TV using my PS3. Thing is, the PSP version looks a LOT better than any of the aforementioned other ways I've ever seen it. Better in the sense that, it ALMOST looks like how a 720p/1080i source looks running into a 1080p TV with 120 Hz. It does NOT look like Blu-Ray run into a 1080p TV with 120 Hz (meaning, "soap opera effect" or anti-judder), but DOES have a little bit of that quality, but not as pronounced. I'm almost certain Lost is shot on film, but on the UMD, it almost looks as if it's shot on very good quality video. Meaning, it's crisper and more detailed, and adds more depth and immediacy to the image. I think Mora knows what I'm talking about.

So my question is, when UMD movies/TV shows are displayed on the PSP, are they being output at 24p and at 120 Hz (frames per second)? Because that's certainly how it looked to me.

    Re: PSP/UMD question

Are watching the UMD on your PSP when you say this? If so, it's because the picture is compressed on a small screen, which is the reasion why it looks better. If not, and you're watching it on a PSP slim through the video-out using componet video cables, then I really couldn't you. If this is the case, this is kind of confusing because UMDs can only store 1.8 gigs of data compared to a 8.5 duel-layer DVD. So on paper, the DVD should look better because it can store more "picture information".

No, on the PSP screen. I already know it'll look awful outputted to my TV.

I hate to tell you this Perv, but I think you are asking this on the wrong forum, so you might not get an answer from any of us.

Don't see the point of UMDs.

Thanks for the enlightening response, Mora-san.

Also, I bought the Neon Genesis Evangelion box set on DVD yesterday. That's the one I was supposed to get, right?
