They seem perfectly capable of killing themselves.
I'm talking about these tiny gnats the size of a grain of rice. I call them fruit flies, but I'm not sure if they actually eat fruit. As far as I can remember:
Two have ended up in the toilet, which I only noticed after peeing in said toilet, and both times I managed to scoop it out, but it died anyway.
The shower seems to be a popular hangout for them, even when I'm using it. One got wet and I'm still unsure if it survived, and other times I've had to shoo them out.
Another time, one of them flew in the sink, and down the drain... I didn't wait for it to come out before washing my hands.
And once I had just finished my cup of apple juice and was bringing it to the kitchen... I look in the cup... and apparently a fly had flown in sometime before and landed on the wall of the cup, and as I was carrying the cup upstairs the dregs of apple juice swamped it and stuck it to the wall. Despite my efforts, the fly perished.
And all of that happened this year. Damn, they drown easy... I'm wondering how many of them there actually are, if so many of them keep dying.
