    Damn you, Nintendo.

My Nintendo DS was one of those early models which had the defect on the hinge where it would crack. Unlucky me, it didn't crack until AFTER the one-year warrenty expired. I called in and they said for 90 bucks they would repair it for me, eff that. I could practicaly buy a new DS for that price I said. I called again the next day and they said they would do it for 60. That still wasn't good enough because it was a defect and the way I saw it was that if it's a defect that Nintendo admits then they should honor their original claim to fix it for free--even if the warrenty had expired. Flast forward about 4 months and now the crack has gotten much much worse. It started out small and spidered all the way down until a portion of the hinge actually ended up breaking off earlier today.

So I decide to buy some KRAZY Glue and try to fix it myself. The crap would not bond, and all I ended up doing was smearing some of the glue on my DS, on my hands, and making my DS look like utter crap. It still works, but damn. I wish I could get the thing to bond so I could hope to sell it off to GameStop but unless I can do that I'm screwed.

    But... the warranty is expired.

The way I see it if there's a recall, or an admitted defect then they should fix it no questions asked.

AND NOW MY DS WON'T EVEN TURN ON. HAPPY DAY.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do with this paperweight?

I just want to play Phoenix Wright.

Now I'll never know if Maya did it.

Well, as far as I know, there was no recall, and an actual defect has not been proven. there are a ton of launch units that have no crack even today. one of my friends has a launch DS lite, plays it every day, it has scratches everywhere, the shoulder buttons are a disgusting shade of brown, and there's no crack at all.

which means that it's most likely caused by the different ways users handle it, not a manufacturing defect.

nintendo was being quite generous when they extended the warranty and did all those repairs for free.

You didn't push the top half all the way out so that the halves were parallel... did you?

Yeah, I have a DS phat that one of the hinges is... GONE. It's to the point where I can make it into a DS pac man when it's open.

It looks fine anyhow, I can't see how a little crack is of any concern, but that's just me.

Well I just got my DS, I bought three games (Sonic Rush, Ultimate Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy Tactics A2) and I already beat them all, so now I need a new game but first I need a job so I can get a new game. I play Ultimate MK the most right now but since none of you have it all I can do is play single player or random unknown online people.

I got the Best Buy replacement plan when I bought my DS Lite. Still not sure how that works and the expiration is getting pretty close. I'm planning on getting it replaced so I have a shiny, new one to play with. I've got enough legitimate reasons to want it replaced: dead pixels or dust in the screen, major scratches, often doesn't recognize a game is inserted, power switch is janky, bit of a dead zone in the corner of the touch screen.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

I almost feel like doing that. Buying a new DS, with the replacement plan. Swapping out the bar codes. And going "WTF it's all messed up I want a new one" a few months later.

                            But that would be FRAUD.

Looks like I'm gonna have to make it honest and just throw the thing away. Unless Valk wants it or something.

I've been interested in getting a DS lite, but not a broken one.

Then again... how messed up is it, exactly?
