    New Game

Well I have had this idea knocking around in my head for a couple of months now and finally decided to make it into a game for RPG Maker 2.

Right now the title is Sword of Vengence.

The main character is Westly. She is a scout from the western continent that was sent to Rune Island by her King to learn about the land and the people. She is living in the small village of Eden. That is until its attacked by a group of bandits. She is able to escape but ends up lost. While searching for help she wanders on to a plantation, which is owned by a very unpleasant man. She is spotted by his guards and is mistaked for a bandit. Thinking she is a bandit, the owner puts her in a dungeon.

Luckily, one of the guards feels sorry for Westly and asks a visiting Monk, named Chen Zen to look at her. Horrified by her condition Chen Zen takes Westly to his cabin at Dragon Lake, in hopes of curing her illness. In not time Westly is feeling better.

While talking to Chen Zen, Westly meets one of Rune Island's unusual inhabitants, Zen the magical fox. After talking Chen Zen and Zen agree to take Westly back to Eden. When they get there the town is distroyed and the group decide to head to Stoner's Castle to inform the King of what has happened.

Upon arriving at the Castle the group finds out that the King has some business with Chen Zen. It soon discovered that Chen Zen must accompany a priest to The Tomb of the Sword, but the King has agreed to let Westly and Zen stay at the Castle until Chen Zen returns.

When morning arrives terrifying news reaches Westly and Zen. The Priest that went with Chen Zen turned out to be an imposter. Fearing for Chen Zen's life Westly and Zen rush off to the Tomb of the Sword. When they get there they see Chen Zen about to be finished off by the Imposter. Westly rushes to save Chen Zen. She is able to defeat the Imposter by pull a Sword out of the stone and striking him down, but not before she and Chen Zen are injured. Luckily Zen is able to teleport them to Chen Zens' cabin at Dragon Lake.

Upon talking to Chen Zen it is discovered that Westly doomed her life by breaking the seal on the Sword of Vengence. Now the group must venture out to find the scrolls that contain the history of this cursed blade.

But there are many obstacles in there way.

One being the Priestess Sanora. She has sworn her life to protect the blade and to make sure it is never drawn again. Legend has it that this oath goes beyond the blade.

Second being Strodham. He a Leader of a group of bandits, who craves nothing but power. He will stop at nothing to gain the Sword of Vengence.

The third being if they find all the scrolls it might not be enough to save Westly's life.

    So what do you think?

    WESTLY IS A SHE!?!?!?

Not that that's bad, but it's sorta misleading.

This could be used to your advantage, though.

I... I suppose that it's not too bad...

Again, this could probably be used to your advantage...

I'd like to know more... especially genre.

I think it honestly sounds awesome! Although, you shouldn't have revealed so much in your post. What's the point in playing your game if you already know what's going to happen? I'd edit your post. Anyway, your story sounds like it'd make a good book. Seriously, execute your idea right, and you may have yourself one of the best RPGM 2 games in a long time. If you'd make this game, I might be one of the first in line to play it.
Twothorp was in immense pain. The blisters did not care.

Right now I'm thinking it is going to be a mixture between comedy and fantasy. I'm going for something like the anime Inuyasha. Maybe with a small love story mixed in. Not sure though. Still trying to work all the little details out.

I know my character's name are a little weird but they seem to fit the characters for me. Though I'm a little concerned that people might get confused by Chen Zen and the magical fox named Zen.

I'm trying to make the game mostly character driven.

This is not my first attempt at a game on RPG Maker 2. All the others that I started were never finished. I think do to a lack of preparation or my lack of understanding of RPG Maker. I'm hoping not to let this happen again.

I'm open to any suggestions you might be willing to give.

Superhero Bob I think it honestly sounds awesome!
          Thanks!

It sounds decent, but Chen Zen and Zen. I was very confused.

I like the Characters' names, but when I play the game I'll always think of Westly as a Dread Pirate. As for Chen Zen, Perhaps you could call him just Chen (or Qen)? Or Qen Zen-Qi'a (Chen Zen-Chi'a)? Also, if you use the name "Zen" somewhere in there, it could perhaps hint at a connection between Zen the Magical Fox and himself.

              Is Zen a Kitsune?

                What is a Kitsune?

Looking back at my notes I also thought about calling the Magical Fox Po or Hun. I think I might combined the two and name him Po Hun. Looking back I have no idea why I started calling him Zen.

Oh, and Westly is actually a nickname for the main character. Her real name is Kayla Long. There is a reason for the nickname but I can't explain it because it will give too much away.

What are your feelings on mini games? I was thinking about including one or two in the game. You would either get gold or a special item for completing the games.

I believe a kitsune is a fox spirit (I know "kitsune" means fox in Japanese).

                    Oops...

I don't have my Book of All Knowledge with me at the moment, so I don't have a dictionary definition, but...

A kitsune is a fox spirit with the power to take human form. They are extremely clever and tricky. They may have other shape-shifting/fire powers as well, but I don't have my Book with me.

                      (Hee hee, I don't need a book. )

                      Here's what I know:

Kitsunes do indeed have fire and shape shifting powers. I also know that some legends say kitsunes have a small flame floating above their heads (which may or may not only be seen by people with special sights). I also remeber that they have incredibly long life spans, and can be forced into their fox forms by A.) having dogs bark at them, B.) having their reflections seen in the water, and C.) basking in the light of a fire made up of wood from a tree as old as they are.

That's everything else I think I know, but I'd appreciate it if Hikari no Kaze verifies my facts.

                        Re: New Game

Zen, now named Po is not a Kitsune. While he does have magical powers he cannot transform into a human. He does have a strong sense of smell, good balance ( he is able to walk across tight spaces) and has a strong sneak ability. As weird as this sounds he is very wise and comes from a royal bloodline. He has a bad habit of giving advice in areas he has little knowledge about. Po is actually inspired by Shippo the fire fox from the Anime series Inuyasha.

Another question for you. What do you think of mini games. I was thinking of putting two into my game. One would be a trading game and the other would be a Quest Contest. I haven't worked out much of the details yet.

I'm also hoping to get some pictures posted later this week. I have one world map done for the game, with some towns and one dungeon done.

                          Re: New Game

Okay. I finally got sometime to work on my game. I've come up with 2 mini-games. The first one is a trading game. In some towns there is a Trader who will give you accessories if you give him the correct item. You find the items all over the world. Some you might find in peoples' houses or you receive them from defeating certain monsters. These items can be found several times through out the game.

The other mini-game is The Quest Takers Contest.
A Rich Man from the Western Continent is running this contest to see who is the best Quest Taker. To win this test you must complete 10 quests in sequential order. The Quests are:
                          - Hunt for a stone tablet in a dark cave
                          - Train Rocky the Horse
                          - Beat Five of the Best Fighters in the land
                          - Sneak past the guards
                          - Get past the traps in the Dungeon
                          - Participate in the Great Demon Hunt
                          - Get to the top of the Temple
                          - Take part in a talent contest
                          - Find the Thief
                          - Find the missing farm animals.

I can't find my usb cable so it might be awhile before I can post the pictures.

                            Re: New Game

The mini-games are more like side quests than mini-games, but that is not a bad thing. I like the Quest Taker one especially... I can't think of any game I've played (commercial or otherwise) that has actually done that.

Looks good so far. The story is a little cliche, but I never minded that, and the comedy may render this a moot point.

Thanks for keeping me motivated guys. I really do apperciate all the great advice. I finally had some time to work on my game. I'm about half way done with the first section. The ghost event in the game gave me more trouble then I expected. I really can't say how far I am from being finished because the actually story is not complete. I working on specific sections at a time. I do have the first world map complete which includes the sister islands of Rune and Riven. On these two islands there are at least 3 or 4 towns on each island. I still need to put the events into some of these towns. As far as the side games or quest go I have then all worked out on paper. I just hope they work in the actually game play.
