I just recently got VX because I wanted to try and get back into RPG Maker. Just wondering if anyone's using it?

Re: Does Anyone Use This?
Nope. I was still halfway through my RPGM2 title when 3 came out, and I thought for sure it would be a slap in the face. I'm glad 3 wasn't so versatile as to make 2 completely obsolete.
I don't know anything about this one. Since its pc you probably have unlimited memory and can share data with other people. Thats a pretty good advantage."Reality is merely an Illusion, albeit a persistent one." -Albert Einstein.

Re: Does Anyone Use This?
VX is just a minor upgrade. But you can get around the universal tileset by using this.

No, VX is simply a minor upgrade over XP; both will let you make action RPGs (see Eternal Grace on this site) but neither are specifically designed for it. IG Maker is designed for it, but is apparently very hard to figure out and no one here currently uses it.Originally posted by citange View PostI thought VX was supposed to give you the ability to make Action-RPG's, whereas XP didn't. I don't know, I haven't used either one but that is what I read on their site. I almost bought it too before I read these posts. Maybe I should just get XP...
I went for XP because of its lower price and the plentitude of resources available for it out there. And it's great. But XP and VX both have small advantages over each other.
By the way, please try not to bump topics over a year old unless you've got something important to add. Normally this will just result in the deletion of your post. Since this is a seldom-used area of the forum, I'll let it stay.
How Badly Do You Want It? (VX Ace) is now available for download! - no outside software necessary.

Re: Does Anyone Use This?
I apologise if this is considered a necropost.
I would like to chip in in support of RPG Maker VX. It is true that XP and VX are pretty similar, and in many ways VX is a minor upgrade; it even loses some features from XP. However, in my view it is easier to make an action RPG in VX because the tiles are all of a fixed, square size, and the characters are this same size. It sounds like a trivial distinction, but it can actually be a huge deal in designing action-based games.
However, in either maker, if you want an action-RPG, you are going to be scripting that in yourself. As in, modifying the code for the game engine. XP and VX are designed for this, which is what gives the PC RPG Makers strength.
Also, both makers have fully functional thirty day trials.
