    This forum kind of sucks for sharing writing that isn't poetry-also some crap I wrote

    The lack of the ability to do even the most basic formatting really kills the readability of anything that isn't some sort of verse.

    As an example here is the unfinished first draft of a story I was writing for submission to flash fiction magazine awhile back, I don't really think it's very good as I languished and missed the deadline because I wasn't happy with it in general--I'm just using it to show how ugly things look unformatted.

    Is there any way that we could at least get the ability to do proper paragraphs up in this *****? Or is that totally impossible.

    When I asked Valk about it, he kind of gave me the impression that it wasn't terribly important and he wouldn't bother with it.

    When I post things here, I format a new file to just double-space between paragraphs. It's extra work, but makes it much easier to read here.

              That is a mature and rationed argument on the same level as yelling ragequit repeatedly over X-Box Live.

              Every time I browse here the prose topics I see either die really quickly, and/or someone comments that the lack of formatting hurts the readability. I'm trying to make a reasonable point that more people would bother to read--and write--prose in this forum if it weren't made needlessly difficult to read and so far your response is WHO CARES LOLOLOoooo

              Edit: I should note that I understand that it may be entirely impossible to fix it, but I find your reaction to my complaint jarring and difficult to comprehend.

                The writing mostly falls out because we don't post in each others topic near enough. In the rare times I post short stories they're normally well received. I don't think it's really the readability as more so just the length. Sadly most of us don't come to the pavilion to sit and read huge blocks of text. Unless Terr posts, then we eat it up.

                Errors I've spotted for the story:

                Third paragraph first sentence, did you mean to word it "He came to small town"?

                And when M starts to speak about two sentences in he says "all corners the globe"

                Other than those two splotches it was a good idea for a story, just didn't seem to translate well in its current form. The ending seemed too abrupt, I mean if you had built up a built more sympathy for the robot, or perhaps more fear from the humans then it would have a greater impact as it stands now it's a piece obviously done by someone who has great skill in writing, just seems to lack the dedication to hone it out. I could just be blowing smoke out my ass, I'm not sure. I liked the story though.

                        Most people complain that reading on the computer screen for long periods of time is why the topics die. Not because the formatting bothers them.

                        Formatting is an issue only if you refuse to go with what we've got. So WHO CARES. Get over it. If someone can fix it, well, yay, but back when we switched to this forum, Valk gave me a *shrugs* and I left it at that, because it's not a crippling problem. Unless you allow it to be.

                        If it bothers you so much, post it elsewhere and link it to us. Is that so hard, either?

                          God, Rick. He's sitting here trying to help get the Pavilion improved for all of us people that write and you're complaining? When you're telling him to get over personal opinion, I think you're being lame for lame's sake.

                          To think, you started The Writer's Guild. For shame.


                          Also, I'm pretty sure this would be easier than the Spoiler tag. All you'd have to do is replace some [TAB] or [LINEINDENT] tag with four to eight forced space characters, right?

                          Hell, or even just an emote that's a big blank space. :---

                            I'm not being lame for lame's sake. I'm telling it like it is. I'm all for someone fixing it, but until Valk or TTC or anyone thinks they can fix it and deems it worthy of his time, I'm still operating off of Valk's last word.

                            And I still like the idea of posting it at a website where you post writing, and then just link it here. Omni linked us his creepy erotic cloth-eating rape thing, and Rone linked us his ripoff of Voyage of the Dawn Treader, so I still don't find it to be an issue until Valk reiterates or changes his *shrugs* or someone actually attempts to fix it.
