View Full Version : Vanishing Visual Effects On World Maps Weirdness

I was just playing around with the monsters that will appear only when sailing a boat (you know the type, The Sturgeon General, Marlin Brando, Mackerel The Knife, etc.) and stumbled upon a bit of High-Wierdness.

Whenever my party sails "around the world" ("loops" the map... you know, going off one edge and appearing on the other) Visual Effects on the map just vanish.

Is this something inherent in the system, or somehow my fault?

Can it be fixed short of placing "Barrier Reefs" along the edges of the map to restrict party movement?

Is this the reason somebody mentioned wanting to keep vehicles from looping the map in one of the RPGM3 threads? The exchange took place on Pages 5 and 6 of this thread:

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

'Fraid it seems that way. However, there are two ways around it; the first method you mentioned and the second one simply not using a world map and connecting everything like in games such as Earthbound, Zelda and Pokemon. In the latter case, you can make closed-up sailing spots if you want to use a shiplike vehicle.

Oh well.

There sure are some strange problems with VFX in this system.

I guess I'll build some reefs. I got too far to figure a way to ditch the boat now.

Can I look forward to the same problems with airships?

I'll find out after work tonight.

It'll be interesting to work around that problem, if it exists. Fortunately Airships are easier to dispose of than boats in my game.

Thanks for the information.

Peace.

Airships too.

Flipping heck.

Just to expand on this, rain and snow also stop occuring when you do this, and will never come back until you leave and come back to the map. I was messing around with this and my pseudo random weather generator, and even when it was supposed to rain again you couldn't see the rain after you looped around the world.

EDIT- It seems if you go back the way you crossed over the rain comes back. So you might want to see if your effects come back when you cross over the same edge you crossed, but in the opposite direction.

Yes, all VFX seem to do that.

I decided to do away with airships and build a barrier reef with controlled openings for boat warping.

Now I've gotta learn that whole "take the vehicle with you when you warp using Deploy" trick.

Oy.
