    Am I overcompensating here?

This is like a Freudian joke wrapped up in a red ribbon, but I just purchased a 65 inch TV today.

    It's a rear projection Toshiba.

Before taxes, it was only $890.

It was an open item floor model.

    It is 1080p.

I'll be picking it up from work later this week.

It's gonna be ****ing IMAX in my basement. It's almost 5 feet across.

    I'll stop now.

    heh, rear projection.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Well, at least it doesn't weigh a ton. I mean, it's light as a feather compared to my current 30" HD widescreen CRT.

      That's something, at least, right?

Meh...I don't follow the trends...I set my own.

Your gonna have to watch that TV in low-lighting or elsa you won't be able to see it clearly. Also, you have to be careful about burn-in. Other than that, congratulations on the new TV!

Post how in looks when it arrives, okay?

I live in the basement and am nocturnal. How bright do you really think I have it here?

Plus, it looked fine at work with all the overhead flourescents.

I posted that after you said you'd be puting it in you basement. Also, do you need to replace a lightbulb on rear-projections? I know you have to with DLP.

                Re: Am I overcompensating here?

Yeah. It's a DLP. 2007 model. I took into consideration that I would need to change bulbs (I bought the obligatory protection agreement from my work, which covers bulb replacement. I got the three year thing, which is fully refundable within the first year, not prorated or anything). Thing is, most LCD/plasma only have about a 50,000 hour or less lifespan before they begin dimming. And as far as I'm aware, when you're at that point, you can't fix it. You need a new TV. Assuming this TV works okay, when it does start dimming, I'll only need to replace the bulb, not the entire TV.

And Valk, I already said that it's light as a feather. It's NOT one of those that sit on the floor on a built-in cabinet or whatever. It'll go on top of my entertainment center. It's bulky and cumbersome, sure, but really should be no problem if and when I move out of here.

How long has that TV been sitting on the showroom for? If it's been sitting on the showroom for 2000+ hours, then I'd suggest getting a bulb replacement. Btw, it's not as easy as it may seem to tell when the bulb is getting dim. Your eyes will get used to the dimming bulb, so it might be hard to tell when to replace it.

52" is the largest ive seen and it is with a built in cabinet and needs a crane to lift cause its so damn heavy. the picture is good, but its really overkill. i hope yours has more luck as far as weight. enjoy the picture.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Karr, we sell 52s at my work that you can mount on the wall. Are LCD and plasma TVs not available yet in Canada?

Here's the scary/sad thing...I'm around 52+ inch TVs all day at work, so seeing those enormous TVs does not even faze me...like, it does not even dawn on me just how big they actually are. I saw my new TV today, and only because it said 65" on the sticker on the front did it even dawn on me how big it actually was. Seeing it in the store, it just looked like another big TV. I know for a FACT that as soon as I get it home, set it up, and turn it on, I'm seriously gonna be like, "Oh my ****ing God....what the **** was I thinking buying a TV this ****ing big?"

If its the same model I found online, its only 85lbs, which is pretty light.

and it has all sorts of features...

Yup, that's it. To me, the ONLY downside is that I'm not seeing a way to switch to 24p, and I'm not sure what the pulldown is (probably 3:2).
