Arg. I need help with vista upgrading.

since I've had my computer (late december), there is one update file that just fails to install every time I try. it is labeled "Update for Windows Vista (KB942763)".

what the hell can I do to finally get this damn update installed and finally be rid of the "updates are available for your computer" notices?

Turn off Automatic Updates and delete it?

Edit: Looks like a file to correct the Daylight Savings changes. You might play with those settings before trying to install the pack, and it says you'll likely have to restart when it's finished, but you obviously haven't gotten that far yet.

I turned off automatic updates, but the damn thing downloaded a long time ago and wants to be installed like, every day. I have no idea how to just delete it.

it really ****** me off, this is the only problem vista has ever given me.

Why don't you search for the file and delete it from there?

Also, never update windows. I have actually updated windows before and it caused me to have to reformat my whole computer.

i shut that piece of crap off after it tried to tell me my labtop was using a non genuine windows copy or something bogus. got tired of having to deal with that and axed the updates, havent looked back since.

just track down the file, axe it and move on. you can most likely find it in the control panel under add/remove programs.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Your not going to find Windows updates in Add/Remove programs. You'll find .Net frameworks and such things, but not Windows Updates. Do a repair install of Vista and manually update the stuff you want. That will remove ALL your updates though, so it might take awhile. I don't think I've ever had Automatic updates turned on...

You won't loose any of your information or programs, just the windows updates. I did one on my sister's computer last month and she still had all her stupid-ass Sims2 expansions installed, even the user-generated content.

                    Really?
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> View Installed Updates

Looking around it seems firewalls and other anti-virus programs prevents a LOT of people from being able to update...the solution? Uninstall firewalls/antivirus programs, disable all startup programs, disconnect completely from the internet, and then install it...thats worked for a lot of people.

Or if you dont care for doing that...have you emptied your temp folder lately?

Also if you dont care about ever installing it go to Control Panel -> Windows Update and see if you can use the "Hide" feature on that update(go to "View Updates" and right click on the update you want to hide), that turns the auto notification off for that feature.
