Man, here I am waiting for months for this thing to come out and I'm extremely disappointed with it! Do you know what it adds? A stupid search engine and a revised fast-forward and rewind feature when watching videos! Crap! Pure crap! You can just go to Google for the search engine; it loads just fine on the PSP. But guess what? The PSP search engine is a dumb-downed verison of Google! That's right, it's powered by Google! This is just pure stinking crap! Thanks a lot Sony!

Definitly not what they just added! They could've added Quicktime support or Flash that borrowed available memory from the memory stick. They also could've redsigned the web-browser, maybe added a feature that, again, borrowed available memory from the memory stick for websites that are too big. They also could've added streaming video, again using the memory stick. They put little thought in the 4.0 update. Everyone had high hopes for it, including me, but were sorely let-down.Last edited by Zeroth; 06-19-2008, 01:45 AM.Twothorp was in immense pain. The blisters did not care.

Meh. I just updated to ver. 2.36 today on my PS3, and I read that ver. 2.4 is coming very soon. In-game XMB and trophies! WooHoo!
As for the PSP, I've not turned mine on in over a week and a half, so I was not even aware there WAS a firmware update.

bob, you cannot use a memory stick as ram. they just arent made for that. the access times are too damn long. it just isnt possible.
They cant add too many new features because currentlhy the on-board memory in the first generation PSPs (where the OS is stored) is almost full. it's to the point where if they want to add big new features, they would have to remove others, or just completely abandon support for the first gen systems.Last edited by Valkysas; 06-19-2008, 03:30 AM.

How do PCs use USB drives to speed up performance of the computer?Originally posted by Valkysas View Postbob, you cannot use a memory stick as ram. they just arent made for that. the access times are too damn long. it just isnt possible.

USB drives are almost 2 times faster on linear reads (Reading data in sequential chunk) and a little over 1.5 times faster on random reads (Reading from different spots on the card) than the memory stick. This might not be fast enough to use as virtual RAM. You might notice the hiccup every time it goes to read from the ProDuo card.Originally posted by John Mora View PostHow do PCs use USB drives to speed up performance of the computer?
The only reason that a PC uses a USB drive for that little ReadyBoost feature is because using the drive is faster than the alternative, which is writing to the hard drive. Since the hard disk drive is actually a spinning disk, when you run out of memory or use your hard drive as virtual memory you'll notice your computer lag / die. The USB drive is just fast enough that you won't notice as much. I believe that a USB drive is approximate ten times faster for relaying data. The way that RAM works, as good as it is to have more RAM, if your RAM is too slow you could even have a negative impact.

Actually good hard drives are faster, but of course incur rotational latency and seek time penalties unless they're already reading from that spot. But for burst transfer is almost twice as fast on a HD, and the average transfer on my HD is faster than USB 2.0. Of course you get more wear and tear on your hard drive since it's mechanical and not electronic. Maybe if you're using a laptop HD then USB might be a bit faster.Originally posted by PostulateMan View PostUSB drives are almost 2 times faster on linear reads (Reading data in sequential chunk) and a little over 1.5 times faster on random reads (Reading from different spots on the card) than the memory stick. So that USB speeding up stuff is a bunch of crap for the most part.
But assuming Valk is correct (which he probably is), making the OS any bigger would be a bad idea. Even computers lag to incredibly slow speeds if the OS ever has to be paged to disk (or USB :P). But yeah, RAM = 100*HD (or USB) speed. So RAM is 2 orders of magnitude faster than external storage technologies.Last edited by thetruecoolness; 06-19-2008, 08:20 PM.
