I just saw Night of the Living Dead(1968)

It was pretty good for being the original zombie movie, low budget, and Romero's first... The zombie child was kinda freaky lol!

I'm gonna see Dawn of the Dead (Original) tonight...

I'm thinking I should make "LC's Movie (Zombies in particular) review topic")

I didn't like how Barbara was a vegetable.

Agreed. I hated her, but the black guy was pretty much the main character anyways...

LOL it sucks how he gets shot in the end lol!

Dawn of the Dead is the best of Romero's Dead series by far, IMO. The effects leave a little to be desired but that shouldn't take too much away from it.

Tonight I'm probably going to watch the European version of it, edited by Dario Argento. I hear it's better, with new and extended scenes. Or, I could watch Romero's new one, Diary of the Dead. Choices...

Dawn of the Dead is by far the best - but I have a soft spot for the Night of The Living Dead 1990 remake.

Day of the Dead is underrated. Y'all should check it out.

So is Land of the Dead for that matter.

The Dawn of the Dead remake is way better than it has any right to be too.

Diary of the Dead ... is all right. All of the satire and philosophizing is way on top of the surface and it's very silly and self-aware yet also very somber and self-aggrandizing. It's a big fat mixed bag (the voice-over narration blows hard Milla Jovovich-sized chunks) but worth a look.

...Don't we have these zombie movie topics often?

People of our age range can't appreciate exactly why Barbara was a vegetable. It was a subversion of the expected. In movies made at that time, Barbara would have been the heroine and Ben would have been a minor part. It was kind of shocking that instead of the nice white girl, the black guy was the heroic one.

Think Psycho in terms of protagonist dynamics, but with race added to the mix.

Of course, the remake kind of threw that all to the side by making Barbara the hero instead.

I totally agree with Magus except for the part where he started saying Diary of the Dead was okay. Don't watch this expecting to see a movie about zombies.

I remember Tom Savini(the director of the remake) mentioning that because of Ripley in Alien and Aliens they felt a more badass female lead was appropriate.

No, Magus, you're wrong. Land of the Dead is a pile and so is Day. The entire movie's ridiculous because it's all filmed in the same damn warehouse for all but a few scenes. The sets are awful, the story's retarded and it has some of the most unlikable, irritating characters in a horror movie ever, and that's a ****in' ACCOMPLISHMENT. The ONE thing it has going for it is that one effect where the guy is torn in half still alive.
