So, What's Been Going On With Spiderman?

I picked up a Spiderman comic the other day. I haven't had time to seek out Spiderman comics at all much less time to read them until lately. I can't find any sites to tell me what all has happened since I last paid attention to the series.

The last thing I remembered was Ben Reily thinking he was the real Peter Parker.

After that, many years later, I read news that Spiderman was back in the black costume again...

The comic I picked up is without a black costume so I guess I missed out on that storyline. (DAMN)! I wonder if there is a collection book of the new black costume storyline?

Anyway I'm not expecting anyone to tell me everything that happened because that would take forever, but if there is a web link or something that has some sort of up to date synopsis, that would rock.

I think Wikipedia gives a general synopsis of at least all the canon stories.

It doesn't appear so unless there is another article on there somewhere.

Edit: Another thing that I'm wondering about is the whole black costume thing (the original one). In the movies/cartoons, the black costume made Spiderman a prick, but it didn't in the comics, or did it?

Spider-man has a pretty weak entry then.

Re: So, What's Been Going On With Spiderman?

I was always bored with Spider-Man in comic form. But I love the games/movies/cartoons. *shrug* I'm weird like that. I might someday get into Spidey comics, but doubtful. =\

With my brother's help (ie. his comics), I've been reading up on Ultimate X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, Wolverine: Origins (Wolverine in general), and my brother's getting ready to saddle me with the entire Civil War crossover collection when I finish Ultimate X-Men. Ideally, I'd like to be mostly caught up with the current events of the Marvel Universe so that I can actively join in on the Secret Invasion as it's happening, although I'm already falling miserably behind.

And I'm still reading the Dark Tower comics. Can't wait for the Odd Thomas manga-styled graphic novel later this month, either. =3

Thus concludes all the **** you didn't want or need to know about me and comics. Barely even on-topic, but eh, who cares?

That would be cool if they collected all of those stories into color graphic novels. That would help alot.

Some of them have color graphic novel formats after the fact. Astonishing X-Men has at least issues 1-6 and 7-12 collected in color formats. Civil War's got a ton of hardcover books out for the aspiring collector. But my brother's got mostly the actual issues collecting the stories rather than the Civil War event books. He spends most of his spare cash on comics.

Put me down as interested in the Odd Thomas graphic novel as well.

Rick did you happen to read Odd Hours? If so, what did you think of it?

has there been any Spider Man comics with a short, smug Eddie Brock?

yeah, I didn't THINK so, Sam Raimi.

Re: So, What's Been Going On With Spiderman?

I'm a bit non-plussed as to Odd Hours. It had all the snark and flair of an Odd Thomas novel, Odd was just as humorous as always, and the story felt epic compared to Forever Odd and Brother Odd. But it also left me feeling cheated after it was all said and done, because it raised so many questions and left me wondering if Dean Koontz would be doing his very first crossover event with the Christopher Snow books.

Odd Thomas books spoiler ahead.*** SPOILERS ***
I liked it, but I'd rather Odd had died in Forever Odd like he was supposed to, and future novels could be him and Stormy in "Service" wasting evil and fighting the good fight.
                      *** END SPOILERS ***

I so totally fell in love with Stormy Llewelyn. =(

Yeah, I have that affect on people

I've never been a real comic book reader. My parents bought me a 3-pack of Marvel comics like ten years ago, but the only stand-alone was a Spiderman comic that tied into Apocalypse. Something about a young girl being posessed by the power of Apocalypse when she touched a meteorite that was actually a piece of his body.

Anyway, I try to keep up as best I can by just paying attention when people talk about it (comics).

Marvel's working multiverse is insane to try and keep up with as a casual reader. I still don't know which continuity Whedon was following in Astonishing X-Men, and he was basically ignoring a lot of recent stuff, claiming it was "impossible-to-follow continuity."

Me too. I cried at the end of the first book when, well, you know. Not afraid to admit it, either. :3

Yeah, I was also disappointed in Odd Hours myself, particularly the ending(he has an entourage now? The hell!?).

I didn't mind the entourage. Koontz is working up something big, I just wish he'd hurry up with things. Like I already mentioned, the guy's got a couple of loose ends to tie up in regards to Odd Thomas, the Chris Snow novels, and possibly even Frankenstein, so I think it's time for his first ever crossover.

And I cried for Stormy Llewellyn as well. It's one of the only things in writing that's ever affected me so deeply. At least, of something I didn't write.
