Is Chrono Trigger still awesome, even after all these years?

With all this talk about FFVII being such a great game (quite possibly even the greatest RPG ever, apperently), It makes me think of CT (The other, quite possibly, greatest RPG ever). And it makes me sad to see this game overlooked by all the FF loving youngsters here.

I feel that this, IMO, great RPG classic deserves it's own thread as well.
So... How has it held up over the years? Is it still just as awesome as it ever was? Or is it all just hype? Does it even compare to today's standards of what makes a good game? Or you can just talk about the game in general.

A few years ago I found one used at a pawnshop for $50, after looking at prices online, I found they usually go for $60-$80 used(yes, the SNES version), I went back to the pawn shop to get it but it was sold.

The difference with CT and FF is that CT doesnt have a huge obsessive fanboy fanbase, and thus people dont mind saying they like it.

Its different with FF7, if someone says they like it people automatically sees them as a gawking fanboy, so the degrade the game to stay away from that generalization.

Considering that it's brought a lot of ideas to the RPG table that I'm surprised STILL haven't become commonplace (monsters on screen, sidequests that actually develop characters instead of providing dumb items and ultimate weapons, multiple endings, new game+) the game holds up quite well. Mute character or no, I think the dev team took an incredible risk with some of their ideas like, oh, killing off the main character before the end of the game.

Chrono Cross is a different story. It felt more like a Chrono Trigger fanfic than an actual sequel but let's save that for a different topic (or not).
