Desperate to get your hands on Spore? You'll be able to start playing with at least one part of it soon: Electronic Arts announced today that Spore Creature Creator will be available on June 17.
The Creature Creator will allow you to start playing with all the different body parts that will be at your disposal in the full version of Will Wright's simulation of everything when it ships in September. Once the game ships, you'll be able to take the characters you created and populate your universe with them. The game's "pollinated content" feature will even automatically take your creatures and spread them to other players' single-player game worlds.
"The amazing creations players design this summer will help populate the game universe we all enter when Spore ships this September, so in a sense, the Spore Creature Creator is the birth of Spore," said Wright in a statement today.
Wright has long seen the creature creator as the window into Spore for casual gamers. Maxis believes that it will be able to rope in players who just love messing around with the creature creator and making their own monsters, then get them to buy the full game when it ships.
Creature Creator will feature seamless interoperability with YouTube to let players instantly create, upload, and share videos of their creatures.
A free demo of Spore Creature Creator will allow players to create monsters using 25% of the different parts. A retail version of the software, priced at $10 in the U.S., will open up access to the rest of the parts.
