This thread is for the discussion of the game Metal Gear Solid 4 and it will contain spoilers. As per the rules, the spoilers will be in tags but this is fair warning:

Anyways, I want to bring up something major that has been getting "spoiled" but if anyone paid attention to the character roster from TGS06 it shouldn't be a surprise at all.

Big Boss is still alive

Images of the strategy guide were leaked and one page tells the story of how the patriots were formed which is honestly no big surprise if you played through portable ops. Some of the details are new, but for those that are interested (or just don't care) here's a summary:

Major Zero formed the Patriots after the FOX unit went crazy in 1970
The original members were Sigint, Paramedic, Ocelot, EVA, and eventually Naomi Hunter. They invited Snake, but after seeing the effects of the cold war he distanced himself from the rest of the world.
Big Boss started the Zanzibar conflict in order to unite the world through the fear of war but was defeated by his clone Solid Snake.
Major Zero establishes a network with the first computer and establishes the Patriots as a global dominator "behind the scenes."
Big Boss takes control of one of these computers but is defeated by Snake again and presumably killed.
Outraged, Ocelot breaks contact and leaves as does EVA.
Gray Fox kills Paramedic as she applies the ninja armor to him. Naomi essentially takes the spot of EVA.
The Shadow Moses incident was designed to teach Snake the truth about his heritage while subsequently destroying the Patriots. Both Ocelot and Liquid failed but every original member of the Patriots except Naomi and Zero are dead.
Major Zero uploads his "memories" into a super computer effectively leaving his body behind. He assumes the identity of Campbel and creates the Tanker incident as a process to control the flow of worldwide information (but it was actually used as a way to collect data from the greatest living hero).
