    Dawn of Infinity

I'm back (it's been two weeks (give or take) since I introduced myself to the people at the pavilion) with some info on the game I plan on making. The game will be made on RPG Maker 2.

My game is called Dawn of Infinity, and the date it will be finished is unknown (hopefully I have a Max Drive by the time i'm done). I have compiled some of the information I have written down on paper below. I will have more to add to it as time goes on. Feel free to criticize or comment on my game idea (whether it be positive or negative). I’m making this game for myself, so if I enjoy then it’s a success, if other people enjoy it then it is a bonus.

    Background Information:

The game takes place on a planet known as Infinity (name has not been finalized). The planet is recovering from past issues that happened about 500 years ago when the Dark Emperor Narhemit had control over most of the planet. Narhemit appeared 700 years ago and was ruler for about 150 years (650-500 years ago). Before the fall of this evil ruler he had massed an army of over 2 million soldiers to concur what was not owned by him. Unfortunately as he traveled through the kingdom of Kern to Invohe he ran into an uprising and was slain were he stood. His grave is rumored to be located to the West of the capital city but no one has found his exact resting place

    The Prologue

5 years ago many problems started to occur in the kingdom of Avalon, including a significant monster increase. The main character of the story, Kyeron (age 14 at the time) is walking through the woods and gets ambushed by a few slimes. Of course he happens to have no weapon with him and lacks much fighting skills. He is rescued by his sister Lily (age 13 at the time), who was told to find Kyeron by their parents, scares them off with small fire balls. They chat for about 20 minutes or so and then head back to their house to find it empty and their parents missing. No one in the small village has seen them in the past 2 hours or so, and no one can figure out why they have gone missing.

    2 years before present date

After 3 years of training himself to become a better fighter, Kyeron leaves town to become a treasure hunter/adventurer. For six months after becoming a treasure hunter he travels around searching for his parents, clues to what happened to them, and any valuable items that he can turn into profit. He finally hears that artifacts relating to the Dark Emperor were found in the Kingdom of Kern. He travels to Kern to see these artifacts and eventually makes a home in the small town of Silvic.

    Present date

There is not much that can be said here, the game is very open ended and can go any direction you want it to, because of this I can’t write up to much information on the story-line since the direction the story takes depends on what you make the characters do during the course of the game. This also means that the game will have many different endings, which hopefully means at least some replay value (depending on how the game turns out)

    Information on places, characters, etc.

    Kingdoms

Kern - One of the two smallest kingdoms. Contains 3 settlements: Silvic, Kern (Capital) and Uvar.

Foeren - The largest kingdom as far as land size, most is unpopulated. Settlements include: Valune, Zark, the Foeren Settlement, and Tarnic (Capital)

Avalon - The second largest kingdom with the largest population (although it does not have the densest population). There are three settlements in the kingdom of Avalon: Marenn, Ranco, and Lyre (Capital).

Omeric - The third smallest kingdom (although almost equal in size to Invohe, the third largest) and is also the most densely populated (on the main continent at least). Consists of 6 settlements: Omar, Darige, the Omeric Settlement, Varmac, Namith (Capital), and the Sameron Outpost.

Invohe - The oldest kingdom (created 2400 years ago) with a very low population do it being mostly desert. Settlements include: Xem (Capital), Ceav, and Gemx

Emerwood - The other of the two smallest kingdoms, covered in snow and evergreen forests. Contains 3 settlements: Willowood, Quet, and Emer (Capital).

The Southern Sea - An area of the world that is mostly inaccessable, so not many people know much about it. Rumor has it that the Dark Emperor came from a continent in the Southern Sea, so many call it the Cursed lands (or something similar)

    Some Important Characters

Kyeron Maric - Age 19, lives in Silvic, lost his parents 5 years ago, skilled treasure hunter/adventurer/swordsman.

Lily Maric - Age 18, lives in the Town of Ranco, Self taught and very skilled mage/wizard. Kyeron Maric's sister

Rian Darnoth - Age 23, former citizen of Vermec, now lives in Namith. Currently a Knight of Omeric

April - Age Unknown (looks to be 16), lives in the city of Lyre, was born in the Kingdom of Emerwood

Darth - Age 22, Born in Gemx, traveling merchant that travels through Invohe, Emerwood, and occasionally travels to the other kingdoms, will do anything to get a good deal

Dark Emperor Narhemit - Once the ruler of most of the world, was slain 500 years ago. Grave rumored to be located in the Kingdom of Kern.

And that’s all the information on the game that I’m willing to put up right now. More info will be given on the kingdoms and characters at a later date (tommorow).

Sounds pretty good to me. I really like the detail you've put into it so far. Have you thought of drawing up a map? Like in MSPaint or something? Things like that are nice and help draw people into the story.

I have a map done on paper which I made a few days ago, I'll probably draw another one up on MSPaint or Paint.net when I get the time.

When I wanted to put my drawn up map onto my computer I scanned it with my printer (which obviously has a scanner). Then I used Fireworks (paint would probably work just as well) to clean it up and make it look pretty. Took like a month, but I got it done and it looks real nice.

          Good luck with your project

Thanks for the good luck, I'm gonna need it (I plan on sticking with this game idea, unlike my other five thousand attempts at making a game). I'd scan my map into the computer but I don't have a scanner. My mom has a digital camra so I could alway use that, either way I'll get the map up eventually.

By "Open Ended" do you mean multiple endings? Or that the game never ends?

                I mean multiple endings.

I don't have much to add about my game because I've been busy with school and exams are coming up, hopefully once exams are done I'll get time to actually get time to turn my PS2 on and start making the game (since I haven't started yet).

                  Re: Dawn of Infinity

Well I haven't worked on the game all that much lately, I've been either too lazy or just haven't felt like doing a damn thing on my game.

Now I have one question, how do you convince yourself to work on your game when you don't have much desire to even turn on RPGM2?

The other problem I have is that after I turn it on, the menus, controls and everything else start to get annoying and then I just want to turn the game off. So my other question is how do you get yourself to keep going?

                    Re: Dawn of Infinity

I run into this problem a lot. It seems the longer I spend not working on
my game, the harder it is to start again. My advice is to forget about the
story of the game at first and mess around with something fun. I like to make
a random building or dungeon that may or may not go in the game, but will
keep my interest in working with the software. Once you get in the habit, it becomes easier to turn the game on and work out problems and story lines.
Good luck, your game sounds interesting and I hope you stick with it!

                      Re: Dawn of Infinity

Usually when I ignor/forget about the story, I end up just wasting hours and making little or no progress on game (either that or I end up with a lot of scripts/events that I have no use for, not thats a bad thing since they may end up being useful later on), at least it seems like I'm making no progress some times.

I agree with your statement that once you get into the habit of making your game or anything for that matter it becomes easier to turn the game on, i'm kind of stuck on the part of attempting to get back in the habit (which I know I will sooner or later).
