My digital painting thread Updated: 7/02/08

Hey guys, so I felt I should start to practice more drawing digitally, so I decided to try my hand at digital painting. I will post all my digital paintings that I do in here, which I will try to do at least twice a week (I am heading home this weekend so I won't have anything until at least Sunday. So if there is anyone who is experienced with digital painting and has some pointers for me, I'd love to hear em.

My first attempt at painting a face. I feel it came out okay, though I will likely not finish this because I have spent way too much time on it.

And here is a crazy squid.

    Enjoy and CnC is welcomed.

That is a ****ing fantastic squid. Kudos man, I always enjoy when someone give inanimate objects or at least "bland" creatures such fervently human features.

      The squid is awesome.

      About the face:

The eye's too big. It needs to shrink down by like 1/2 at east. It shouldn't be any bigger than the nose.

I had to take a second look, but it's hard to tell that that's a lip piercing. Maybe up the dark values on it (reference from some metal jewelry off of google) and make it look more reflective.

It's tough to make a female face with a heavy hand without making her look old. I draw very sketchy and hands on, so I tend to shy away from drawing young female faces. When I have to, I have to force myself to be careful about over-doing the values. Try to soften up the dimples near the nose and the chin so her face looks more smooth.

Look at your nose. The underside of it can't be all bright like that with the light source your suggesting (Upper left hand corner, right?).

I know it's unfinished though, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Great stuff!
      ...and that's why.

Damn it, give me some talent.

The squid rules. Pictures of people are hard, and rarely look good no matter how skilled the artist. But seriously, the squid is awesome.

I dig the squid too. He just looks so squishy and lovable.

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, been busy and going through some things. Anyhow, I managed to poop one out today in about 2 hours.

                  Enjoy!
