As some of you may recall, I've been allergic to peanuts for about 10 years of my life. I wasn't always allergic to them so I was crushed when I was told I'd never be able to eat peanuts again. My allergy had always been triggered by ingestion. Around Christmastime, however, this seemed to have changed.
My friend for a charity-type fund raiser, one day, ate a mystery sandwich that was loaded with peanut butter. After figuring this out, I distanced myself from him in class, but to no avail. I started to break out and have issues breathing. Then, only a day later, the class across the hall from mine, the home-ec class, was making no-bake cookies. The smell was so strong that it could be smelled in the other wing. I once again developed hives and had issues breathing. This time I went to the ER.
Finally, I went to Children's (a hospital) to get blood work done. I checked out negative for peanuts. No real shock, though, since this has happened before. I went to my allergist's a week later for skin testing. Twice the tests came back negative. My allergist then suggested a double-blind good challenge over at Children's in Cincinnati.
Last week, on Thursday, I took the first half of the test. Basically, I had to drink some juice that had something in it. The something could have been peanut flour, or it could have been regular 'ole flour. I came out of it alive. Tomorrow will be the deciding day. I'm going to do the same thing, and if all goes well... I will no longer be allergic to peanuts.
I'm really sorry for this gigantic wall of text. I wanted to let people know, though, since I'm really nervous.
