Yeah. Seen these poping up for a few weeks. Funny stuff.

I want to play the game again even though it's not very good!

How on earth do you make a game play out like a gag manga?

There's a NYT article on Shigeru Miyamoto today and they have a picture of Link but the caption says "title character of Zelda."

I agree completely. Reeks of self-aggrandizing asshattery to me.

Not language, but cultural. japanese people who can speak perfect english will often still use the onii and onee san/chan stuff among family in english speaking countries.

Sure. I have Asian friends. It's fine doing that in interpersonal familial private conversation! But in a comic for mass consumption? Nintendo doesn't leave that stuff in when their games when they bring them over here. Unless, it's like, a joke or something. And usually it's handled with way more finesse. Tom Nook = tanooki, etc.

It's like when anime fansubbers purposefully leave in Japanese words. It's annoying.

                          "ALL ACCORDING TO KEIKAKU."*

*translator's note: Keikaku means plan in Japanese isn't Light Yagami cute! ^^

WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST ****ING SAY "PLAN?"

Localization is an interesting thing for sure. The Phoenix Wright games for instance INSIST on trying to fool you that it's not actually Japan Phoenix and the gang live in. Doesn't always work, especially when you got ramen stands and gangsters in kimono everywhere.

I understand the guy wants to retain a certain flavor that gets lost in translation (the yakuza connotation of the word) but since it's ZELDA Japanese just seems out of place in Hyrule or Waterworld, or whatever the place in Wind Waker is called, and the guy most certainly could've used "brother" or "sister" instead of "aneki" or whatever.

Uh. I dunno where I was going with this.

                          oh man.
