    RPGM2 haters....

you know honestly im getting sick of people saying that RPGM2 is to complicated and that you hate the graphics.

First off, MAKING GAMES IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EASY!!!! that is why people often go to college first to learn the necessary things to work on video games.

Secondly, why does every one want these realistic RPGM3 style graphics, they are horribly generic! At least with RPGM2 i felt as though I could make my character more unique, sure it wasnt pretty but it was functional.

I want to have the maximum amount of customization and if that means that graphics (mainly characters complaints is what i read the most of) have to take a small hit, so be it.

I want it to be as open as possible, essentially a blank slate where i can do anything, not some kind of prepackaged simplified RPG maker that doesn't allow me to to edit every tiny detail to my hearts content.

Enough of the rant, I can honestly say that despite some of the shortcomings of RPGM2, and after playing RPGM 1,2,3, and XP, that RPGM2 is by far the best out of any these.

TBS is coming shortly... I finally got off my lazy self and contacted Datel, so new Max Drive software is coming thus allowing me to release my TBS.

I agree that RPGM2 is the best, if you know how to use it. 1 will always be my favorite though.

I haven't really sat down and worked with RPGM 2, but just after messing around with it I know it's the strongest. 3 is the first RPG maker I played ans probably my favorite. I know I've said this once, but I think 3 has one of the best features, being the field editor. It takes a lot of skill to make a nice field with it.

Im going to say I hate RM2 just because I wanna be different...

          Oh yeah...

          I dislike RM2, not hate :3

The graphics were intentionally built that way, not because they had to free up space to put in customizeability(yay I made a word), and graphics like that is a love/hate kinda thing, I personally hate the graphics and they could have been a lot better(hey everyone, lets make the characters as wide as they are tall!)

Ive had RM2 for over a year and only have picked it up once, for about 15 minutes, and that was it....the menus are clunky, the coding language is ****, and the whole layout of the game just plain sucks as compared to the other games.

And how can you say RM2 graphics arent horribly generic? May I remind you that PLENTY of games had the so called 2.5D generic graphics that RM2 has? Plus, RPGM2's graphics are so stone age its not even funny, its like PS3 releasing a game visually equal to FF7 or the like.

Oh yeah, motion blur sucks in RM2.

Yep, Id much rather work with RM1 or RM3, and its not because 2 is too complicated(as I know a few computer programming languages) its just that I prefer not to use the software because of the style they used in creating it and the clunkiness of the menu layouts(which could have been a LOT better).

Basically, RM2 haters thinks the same way about RM2 as you do about RM3, so youre blowing your own horn there on that one.

            ????

I think maybe 1-2 people in the whole RPGM community hate RPGM2.

3 or VX usually get more hate.

3 gets more hate because it easier to use but more limiting, which is more fun in a way because it challenges you to try to break barriers.

VX gets so much hate because its basically the same as XP with a few extra doodads

I cant understand people who hate rpg maker 2, it can do evreything rpg maker 3 can and more, plus I have sat down to make a new game with rpg maker 3 and spent 4 hours looking for a decent charecter model, but they all look ether to strong-looking to be a hero to much of a ***** to be a hero or,with most of them, like a somone who is suffering from "Extream retartednes"... They just have nothing good... Dont even get me started on making attacks...
My only problem with rpg maker 2 is that if you make a "loop event" without a way out you have to restart from the last time you saved, because theres no escape from it...

Well you could just set a variable to add or subtract 1 every time the loop goes through and when it reaches the limit it will end. Or you could use a flag that stops it...

                    Re: RPGM2 haters....

I'm thinking of taking Valk's advice in another thread, and looking online for that digital camera that can be used to import graphics into RPGM2. I only have one game idea that I'd like to use RPGM2 to work on, as it would be impossible to make on RPGM3, and having the ability to use imported graphics would add to the concept considerably.

That being said, I've not played around with RPGM2 all that much, so I cannot really complain about the graphics too much. My MAJOR complaint is the convoluted, unintuitive menu system/user interface. Besides RPGM3 being easier (and thus, I guess, more limiting, if you want to consider it as such), one of the MAIN reasons I enjoy working with it is the fairly streamlined, user-friendly interface. With RPGM2, it seems as if I need to jump through about 5 hoops to get one little thing accomplished.

If I take the time to play around with the software a bit more, though, I think I'll slowly lose my qualms about the interface. Hell, I'm going to need to do that in order to make the game I have envisioned. Oh, wait. This is 2008, and I'm Perversion. Am I really even going to MAKE a game on RPGM2 in the next 2 years? Probably not.

Yes indeed, why wold someone what to use the watered down RPGM3 when RPGM2 is much more rewording?

Who's been complaining? I thought pretty much everyone agree's that it's the best software on the consoles.

I will say that for myself, the controls are the most annoying complicated feature of the game. But I love the graphics (with the exception of the character graphics) and the motion blur isn't really that big of a deal to me. RPGM2 is very quickly becoming my favorite, and 3 my least favorite.

I personally have checked out the other ones yet.

I was halfway done with my game when 3 came out and it felt like a slap in the face. Lost all motivation there for a while.

I do like it though, especially the map editor, and with color change I've actually managed to make some decent looking characters, so much so that I even have placed with 150-200 distance where you see them up close.

                              Re: RPGM2 haters....

I think the love/hate of RM2 comes down to what kind of RPG maker you are. Someone who is more interested in making a game to let people play out the story and characters in their head (take Vonwert, Perversion, Obright for example) may dislike RM2 because of all the other stuff you HAVE to do to make a game. When people complain that RM2 is too complicated they don't mean it's too difficult to understand. They mean everything takes more steps than it really needs to, which is true. I can see why they did it that way but it doesn't change the fact that some people don't like the process. Someone who makes a game to create something with the gampeplay mechanics they want (Nash, DaveCarter) loves RM2 because it lets them control all those aspects.

RM3 is the opposite. It will take care of a lot of the mechanics for you and let's you focus on the characters and story. The problem is they didn't even give you the option of messing with those mechanics. So it's a huge disappointment for people who want to do that.
