I need help with some math stuff!!

So Im taking a college assesment test. Theres two parts to the test. Each part having 20 questions. On the reading and examining part of the test I got 90%, then on the math part I got 45%.

Ive never been good with math, but most of the questions were pretty easy. But there was this one type of question that showed up 6 times, out of the 20 questions, and I cant for the life of me remember how to solve it, even though its probably something they teach in 8th grade. I havent taken a math class for two years, so all I can remember is really basic stuff.

Im taking a retest of the math section, and Im expecting that same type of question is gonna show up again and **** me over unless I know how to solve it.

    It just looks like....

    Solve the following question.
    2/8 x 5/3 =

and then it has 4 multiple choice questions, all of them being the right answer, but in different formats. I cant remember if I was supposed to solve it a certain way that would give me the right format. :/

    Me dumb.....uggghhhh......

Uhh, well all you gotta do is multiply numerator times numerator (2 * 5) and the denominator by the denominator (8 * 3) and get that fraction (10/24). Then as far as I know you just have to reduce it to get the "most correct" answer: 5/12.

Crap, thats what I forgot! I didnt reduce the answer! THANK YOU!

        I almost forgot.........

what do I do if theres a number in front of the fraction? Like....

        3 4/6 + 7 2/5 =

I remember doing something like multiplying the denominator by that number on the sid, then adding it to the numerator......not too sure.

        Any help would be appreciated.

First, take care of the fractions like you normally would, then turn it into a mixed number (which can be done by taking a few numbers from the numerator and setting it next to the fraction). After that, add the integers (3 and 7 in this case). Finally, add that to the integer of the mixed number you got first and slap that number right next to the fraction of that mixed number.

            Mixed number fractions?

They give you an assesment test based on what course your taking, after looking at your previous grades and everything.

Since im taking culinary arts, all they really need to know is if you can read, write, and do some basic math. Obviously I cant do some basic math.

              And thank you RPGProgrammer.

                  3 4/6 + 7 2/5

First you need to take a lowest common denominator. The lowest number divisible by both denominators. In this case it's (6)(5) = 30:

Then you multiply the numerator by whatever each denominator was multiplied by.

                  3 20/30 + 7 12/30

Since they now have the same denominator, it can also be writen as:

                  10 (20 + 12)/30

                  10 32/30

                  11 2/30

                  11 1/15

Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

To save you the trouble, if they want you to turn the mixed number into a decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator. In this case, it'd be somewhere around 11.06.

And here I thought you were doing something more advanced, like calculating volumes of solids of revolution(Blaze asked me on that one 3 years back), perhaps needed help on double iterated integrals, or had a differential equation you did not know how to solve.

But fractions? Just curious, how old are you?

COLLEGE ASSESMENT TEST, usually related to going to College.

Read the first post, omg complicated.

Still doesn't reveal age. Besides, that word has multiple meanings. It could be a placement test you take just before you enter college, or it could be something like a state standardized test, or even a nationally standardized test like the ACT(although in this case it is probably not).

                              Still, as we read further:

A lot of stuff pointing to the fact he's probably 16-18.
