I'm not even gonna try to explain the entirety of the cluster**** that we experienced last night while I dared to uninstall the (long-broken) phpbb that we run for chat here. nothing that went on even makes sense. the database errors everyone saw resulted from the forum software attempting to connect to the correct database with the correct login info. yes, it was giving errors because nothing was wrong. to give you a measure of just how bad it was, thetruecoolness couldnt really figure it out either.
needless to say, **** broke. we lost data. everything posted after the 10th is gone. sorry, it was quite honestly beyond repair or understanding. restoring from a backup was the only way to fix it.
When I get rid of the phpbb chat, I'm going to do it VERY CAREFULLY. in fact, I'm gonna leave the damn phpbb on the server, with the database, and just not link to them from here anymore. they'll just be closed up and shoved into the closet. they take up like, 2MB, so it really doesnt matter. I will not dare try to remove them.
new chat (flash chat, same as the mag) is coming this week. not tonight. I dont feel like touching a damn thing right now. probably tomorrow.
