Dvds to soon hold 10,000 times more data.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm...name_page.html

This is astoundingly good. Plus they will last forever. FOR-EV-VER! FOR- -EV- -VER!

Edit: this also is of course, the obvious brink of another electronic revolution. Maybe all the next gen consoles should delay.

Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

        I certainly am.

If you think that's cool, those DVDs' capacity can be expanded further through the use of nanomachines in conjunction with them.

Though I have to say; what the hell're we gonna do with all that space?

Never ever run out, for one. Or build way bigger programs.

That question was rhetorical. Why the hell didn't you say anything more interesting, like storing ice cream in 'em?

Fine then, I will store ice cream in my 2,000,000GB hard drive. Unless of course, I want to store bigger programs. Come to think of it though: what are DVD storage rates currently, out of curiosity...

Well nothing last FOREVER. Obviously. When CDs first came out they thought they'd last "forever" too. They don't.

But the fact that it could hold 10,000 times more data is ASTOUNDING.

                I can't even imagine that.

Yeah- Cds could now hold 800,000 minutes of 44100 Hz sample rate music. Or they could just up the sample rate appropriately. Like they do.

Edit: an odd thing to point out, but my parents copy of Michael Jackson's "Bad" still works, at least it did last year... that has to be twenty years old, maybe cds last longer than dvds.

Let's see... Normal DVDs have a max capacity of 4.5 GB per layer, Blu-Ray around 27, new HD DVD 45 for all three layers.

If you do the math, you'd get more than you'd ever need, that is, until bigger and better programs/faster internet connections pop up some time in the future.

In a (few) dozen years from now that'll be standard.. Just like when floppies were standard for programs and such..
