    Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Anybody else run to their local shop and pick up a copy yesterday? I'm finding it so far to be less entertaining than the original GBA title, probably because it has an extremely similar style and doesn't improve upon the battle system hardly at all.

It apparently has fewer characters that can join your team, but a greater range of classes that you can upgrade your characters into. It also gives you 'amateur' ranks for some characters, and you then have the ability to level them up more than once. I have a feeling that these characters will be among the most powerful in the game, aside from the two Lords they grant you.

Storywise, the game is basic fare. I haven't found any indication that the game is any kind of direct sequel to the original GBA title, which I find truly annoying, because I was really looking forward to continuing the storyline in the first GBA Fire Emblem.

It also seems much easier than the original, with shorter battle sets and fewer maps that require strategy over bullying your way across the map, or just protecting yourself for so many turns. It lacks the originality the first one had, and I'm disappointed in that respect.

Graphically, it's identical. The battle sprites still look tiny and nondescript, the character portraits are nice, but a slight update in the battle graphics department or maps would have been nice.

Sound is pretty decent. I don't recall actually liking the first one's music, but this one has me humming the tunes on occasion. Don't know why, as a lot of them are the same.

    So, anybody else?

Is anyone getting the Cube one that's coming out later this year?

I kind of enjoyed the first one(still playing it), but I hate how if you lose a character, they're gone forever(or at least until the end of a chapter, which is still irritating).

I picked it up. Haven't played it much though. I got Wario Ware Twisted and Pokemon Leaf green too and I'm in the middle of playing Zelda Oracle of Ages. If you're finding the game too easy you can always choose a harder difficulty. I mean, you do have the option open right from the get go.

If you're looking for the sequel to the last game then that would be the first GBA Fire Emblem that came out in Japan, Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals (or whatever it translates to), that's the one with Roy in it. GameFaqs has script translations and stuff. It shouldn't be too hard considering you've played the other 2.

Ugh. Script translations. I'm struggling through Shining Force III's scenarios on Saturn with a translation. It's annoying not being able to read what's on the screen, and instead looking to a different area to find out what someone is saying.

But anyways, I have it on Hard. I wouldn't complain otherwise.

I wasn't aware that another GBA Fire Emblem was coming out. I'm waiting for the GameCube one.

I paid for the game in full when I preordered it, but it turns out that the game was $5 more expensive than the guy originally told me it was. I don't know, but if you ask me, it's not my fault I was given false information by a guy that works there, and I shouldn't have had to pay that $5.32.

But I didn't have time to argue, so I paid it and went on my merry way.

I've been playing this a litle more and I think it's pretty awesome. I find it incredibly addicting and fun. I'm about 2 battles after Ephraim and Erika meet up. How about you, Rick?

I'm several battles past that. I took the Eirika route, but I intend to go back and take the Ephraim route after I finish Eirika's. The game is still fun, but the battles seem to be just 'survive or kill 4 times your number' instead of strategically moving your army across the map.

Haven't played this new one yet, the first GBA one was fun though. Not great or anyhing but good enough.

Re: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Now that I'm in the latter stages of the game, it's incredibly difficult. It wouldn't be hard at all if I used the characters who are nearly invincible from the point you first get them, but that's a ****ing copout, and I refuse to play that way.

The reason I keep losing units during battle is because I have to isolate them in an effort to rescue villages, and then I have to find JUST the right strategy to move them in and back out without them getting slaughtered by surrounding units before the bandits can make it to the towns and destroy them, along with potential weapons, characters, and promotion items (which are insanely rare).

This game requires just as much strategy as Advance Wars in the later levels, and anybody who can still say its too easy isn't concerned with losing a unit or two or getting everything the game has to offer.

What's all this about a Gamecube Fire Emblem?

Comes out in November, I believe. I really need to get a GC so's I can play that one, too.

I picked it up used... I'm loving it. It's hard as hell to get so-called "perfects" on every stage (all items, all recruits, no one dead, all villages saved, etc) I've played through one mission at least 8 times now trying to do it... still keep getting one of my cavalirs toasted. Oh well, 9th times a charm.

Thinking about picking it up, but well, I never finished the original one.

If it's better than that one, or if I have money to burn I'll probably get it.

The first storyline is a lot better. This one centers largely around the Sacred Stones, which is more like a fetch quest in reverse in that you're trying to keep the Stones safe from the evil EMPIRE. Why is the empire in games always the evil one?
