Some people usually drive down my street pretty fast, but I also live across the street from an elementary school.
Around a couple of months ago my mom had talked to the city to try to get them to add speed bumps. They placed a couple of cables across the street to count how many cars (and I think how fast) go by whenever the cable is run over. They later ended up deciding that there wasn't nearly enough traffic to add speed bumps.
I was home for lunch earlier today, and I was going to leave to get back to work, I looked over to my left and saw some police cars with the lights flashing, and the cop was talking to a woman (I assume the driver that's involved). I see my neighbors so I go to them to ask what had happened, and they told me a kid had been hit by a car.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay for long, so I am not sure how serious the kid had been injured. But it just got me thinking that if the city had bothered to add speed bumps, this might not have happened. My street is not normally busy, but the fact that so many kids run around in the morning and afternoon each day, a speed bump or even a stop sign should have been added already. That's specifically why my mom had tried to get speed bumps added.
If I find out anything more, maybe from a paper, I'll post about it.
