EDIT: To those unaware of who Sean Bell (was), he was killed when cops shot at this car with 50+ bullets. I think Chuck Rich clarified the rest of the information.

I didn't know the case either but I heard of this thing called a search engine. They even have them on the internets now. So I typed his name in and sure enough was given "links" to articles about the case. I swear it's true!

Anyway, from what I've read in the NY Times articles from when it happened the shooting was justified or at least justifiable. It's absolutely tragic that he was killed on his wedding day and his friends wounded but I think I'd have to agree with this verdict.

Cuz I'm still here and no seems to give a ****. I brought my camera along too in case there were protests or anything on campus.

But this is a honky college campus - downtown. About as far removed from Queens as you can possibly get.

I think the case is pretty disturbing and tragic. But hey, it's such a nice day out I think I'll go lay in the park AS I WEAR MY SANDALS

I don't think shooting a guy and IMO innocent bystanders with 30+ bullets was justified. Heck, I don't think the killings were justified at all. But power corrupts, and there's zilch the commoner can do about it SO LET'S HAVE ICE CREAM, MY TREAT.

The only reason they were found innocent is because 2 of them were black, if had been all white guys they would have sentenced them to hang at dawn the next day.



Of course using 50 bullets to kill 1 guy around a bunch of bystanders is not justifiable in any way.

Maybe it's just me then. But I figure when you try to mow down a cop with your car and crash into their van a couple times trying to get away you would expect them to start shooting.

From what I've read, supporters of Sean Bell maintain that the officers were all plain-clothed and never identified themselves as police.

Even if these cops were justified in shooting (none of the articles I read made it clear if this was true), it still seems like they used excessive force and should at least be reprimanded for that.
