So... I was just told that I might be moving to China for 6 months. My dad's a high-up at a company whose factory is closing down and moving to China. My dad might go and work at that factory for 6 months...

Anyone ever been down to China before?

He's going over there to manage it for awhile. And anyway, we're not going to be Chinese citizens or anything... We're going to be U.S. citizens visiting China.

Oh... And my dad's friends with an important Chinese guy that a lot of other Chinese are afraid of.

I don't want to drag the thread off-topic, so I'll make this quick, but I checked out that article and it's pretty horrible. There's just so much wrong with that... even if it is technically the greatest good for the greatest number, especially with China's execution rules, it just seems so inhumane. The G8 really needs to get on China's ass about this, while at the same time actively helping them join the "glorious" developed (service society) world.

Anyway, Siv, I've known a few people that have been to China for moderate amounts of time like you're going to... and they've all been considerably older than you are (but then again you're extremely mature for a 14-year-old), and most (though not all) thought it was a wild, interesting, strange, and mostly very nice experience. So try to enjoy it for what it is, and be careful but also have fun. Don't give up any opportunities to do something unique. I feel bad for you that your "normal life" is going to be interrupted for this, but I'm also jealous that you'll get to experience something so different!

Be careful about taking any pets with you. China has no animal cruelty laws, and is prone to go around killing dogs, cats, whatever to "stop the spreading of diseases' that aren't actually a problem.
