...since my father died.

Well, okay, he died on the twenty-eighth of this months (two days before my mom's birthday ), but I've been thinking about him a lot lately....I miss him a lot.....

His funeral was huge, even for the small town. It was like the whole county came to his funeral...There were even police cars, ambulances, and firetrucks following the car line to the cemetary....

My father died when I was thirteen-years-old from a heart attack...

....which was caused by a twenty-year-old, pack-a-day smoking habit!

....My cousin's father died just recently because of his smoking (she was also thirteen). Both my father and uncle were good people, and their lives were cut short by that legal poison.

...Take it from me....smoking doesn't just ruin your life....it ruins the lives of the people who love you, too.

Roneatek once mentioned that his was killed in a motorcycle accident and that he witnessed that.

Mine's well on his way to a heart attack or worse unless he changes his habits. This is unlikely.

Unfortunate, but that's his fault. His dad, who was not a heavy smoker, eater, or a drinker, died at age 40 from a heart attack when my dad was 7. My dad tried to accomplish the same short life with excessive tobacco and alcohol consumption and eating to gluttony(when he could afford it), but has so far failed.

I wish there was something I could do, but whatever it is will only work if he wants to do anything about it.

I feel sorry for all you who have lost yours. It won't surprise me if I wind up in your position soon enough.

Do you have any recommendations on how to solve this problem? Is there anything you would have done differently? Do you have any regretful actions? I could do well to learn from any mistakes or regrets you have.

I am really sorry to hear about your father. It is always so damn painful to lose a loved one... once the day comes around again it is hard to not reflect on it. Take care of yourself. Be sure not to make the same mistakes.

-None that would work. Such addictive things have such a strong temptation. Only the person themself can save their lives....Perhaps an intervention.
-Say good-bye to my dad and that I loved him for one thing. I couldn't do anything to save his life, really, he was smoking seven years before I was even born.
-I kinda made fun of him a bit (but I think he knew I was joking).
-Oh believe me, I know. I knew how bad smoking was from all the times I heard my father hacking up a lung five rooms away. It always makes me feel so bitter when people preach to me that smoking's bad when I clearly know that. They make me feel like the bad guy.

I'm really sorry to hear that. My dad is on the same path as yours, so I know what you mean about the hacking and everything. If you ever want to talk, feel free to message me. I can't really imagine what it's like, but talking is good and I've always got an ear open.
