I've got a SPLENDID idea for the contest. In fact, I first read the details at my friend's house on Saturday night/Sunday morning, and he asked me, "You should do a game based on *blank*" I told him, "That's exactly what I was thinking." I'm going to try to keep this thread updated as I work on the project, but it's going to be a bit difficult, as I will pretty much not divulge any details of exactly what it's going to be. Not that I'm necessarily trying to be all secretive (well, I guess I kinda am), but in order to avoid spoiling the idea, and having Valk's playthrough be something he's not expecting, I'll merely update with technical details.

Let's just say that it's going to be an RPGM3 game, based on a licensed game which is based on something I own on DVD. I am going to incorporate elements of (or at least, base my framework on), a completely unrelated film that is based on a book, and plan to have its title be a reworking of the title of a play performed for the 1920s theatre.

I just NEED to find a way to get this damn Bluetooth keyboard to work with RPGM. I bought a USB to Bluetooth adapter, but no dice. I'll probably return it, and try another one. In the meantime, it seems if I want to get any work done on the game, it'll be by typing through use of the controller....*sigh*

You should have just gotten a USB keyboard.

geat?

Apparently, this Bluetooth keyboard is not as accurate at being able to type every letter as I thought. Thanks, Obi...I'll fix that.

Also, I did not get a USB keyboard, because I liked the touchpad on the Logitech one.

Began working on the game last night, and spent about 4-5 hours on it. This is a BIT misleading, as I was typing with the controller, so it took a LOT longer than it would have had I been using a keyboard. So far, I've created one character and three events. Yes...it took me 4-5 hours to create one character and three events. And the events were nothing complex whatsoever. I think I had a total of 2 val cond branches and one variable. Well, also, I created one town and one building.

I have a really good feeling so far. I drank a 32 oz Monster energy drink a few hours ago, so my plan is to browse the Pav for a bit, and then work furiously on my game, as I have no work tomorrow. And I took Valk's advice, and bought a wireless USB keyboard today. Works like a charm. :)

It's cool that you've started work on this thing. So...without really talking about anything that I may or may not know...are you making this as you go along, or have you mostly planned it out?

A bit of both, actually. I'm using the M.O. I use on pretty much all my games, which is, I have a basic concept in mind, and I usually get inspired as I go along to add things that were not necessarily in my mind at the beginning. Right now, I have at least 3 general ideas or sections of the game that I want to explore, but I'm sure that once I begin working on any of those, more things will pop into my mind, either to expand on those, or to create entirely new "episodes" (which is how I'm laying out the different sections) that I had not originally envisioned.

Thanks for the interest, Obi....oh, and as for wanting to browse the Pav and then work on my game last night...fission mailed! Even after having drank that huge 32 oz energy drink, I was tired enough where I was going to lay down on my couch to merely rest and brainstorm for a bit, and now, it's almost 8 in the AM....I just woke up, and realized that my PS3 had been on all night. I wish I would have been Folding @ Home the entire time...I would have completed at least 1 work unit (I've got about 55 completed).

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has started a game for the contest. Good luck with it. I hope the new keyboard helps. :) I can't imagine typing it all out with the controler.

So I began work again today at about 1:15 in the afternoon, and I'm just now, at almost 6:30 in the evening, taking a break. Episode 2 is close to being completed. As for work done, I created one character and his respective event code (3 modes thus far). Oh, and about 10 mintues before I decided to take a break, I created a character class and a few rudimentary spells. Rudimentary, meaning, they are placeholders for the time being. Once I create my first battle, and figure out how I want it to be laid out, I'll play around with the various values for the class stats and spell stats. Damn...I just realized how long it's been since I've needed to balance battles. Not looking forward to it. But this might be the only battle in the game for a while, and it'll probably be the only battle the main (ie-starting) character needs to fight. Depending on how I want to lay out the upcoming sections, there MAY be no other battles in the game.

I encountered my usual circumstance of, while working on some part of the game, I came up with a "brilliant" idea that will take an originally fairly simple idea, and turn it into something that will take a LOT more work. Then again, if I didn't constantly come up with these ways to complex-ify my games while working on them, they would all end up being fairly simplistic. In every one of these circumstances, the extra time, effort, and energy I put into all these complex ideas is worth it in the end. I don't see it being any different this time around....except that now I have a deadline, and I want to avoid digging myself into too huge of a hole where I end up just slopping something together at the end to meet deadline.

Funny thing is, this game so far, with what I've made so far, and what I envision making further into the process, is going to include at least 2-3 ideas that I've been holding in the back of my mind because I've not had the right project in which to include them. Albeit, the ideas are going to play out a bit differently than how I originally conceived them, but I think they will work out.

All in all, one of the best RPGM creativity sessions I've had in quite some time.

DAMN! The last post was in the middle of April?!?!? I've done jack s*** on this since then. I need to get my ass in gear. Maybe today on my day off. Meh. We'll see.

Most confusing thing I've ever seen posted here.

You only have a couple months now. Hopefully you can get some solid work done today.

Mr. Cook. Yeah, it SEEMS confusing, but I needed to make the description purposely vague in order to avoid ruining what it is. Trust me, it'll actually make perfect sense, and will not even seem confusing at all when and if it's finished.

I won't play it anyway. I don't even have RPGM3. I just thought I was reading one of Douglas Adams' more confounding selections of prose for a minute.

Check your PMs, Mr. Cook.

And I DO hope to get some work done on it today. But there are SO many distractions. I'm hoping to take a bus trip to the Bose outlet store so I can see the TV I might soon buy, so I am not buying it sight unseen. I also want to watch the second LOTR movie at (almost) top volume since nobody's home right now. But that's over a 3 hour investment of time. And I'd like to do some more work on finalizing my new living quarters....I still need to dust, finish putting stuff away, and do some cable management on my setup (once everything is hooked up, there will be three surge protectors and probably over 30 different cables running every which way).
