    the Orphan Act

Yay, new law proposed says that if you make something, someone else can sell it with no penalty.

    http://mag.awn.com/index.php?ltype=p...rticle_no=3605

I don't think it'll pass, but in the meantime, everyone is losing their **** over it. Join in the fun!

        Re: the Orphen Act

        blah, fixed.

"Currently, you don't have to register your artwork to own the copyright. You own a copyright as soon as you create something. International law also supports this. Right now, registration allows you to sue for damages, in addition to fair value." This'll basically change that.

EDIT: this is weird...the link works like, half the time. If you keep clicking it eventually works.

            Re: the Orphen Act

            Wow, that is weird.

I got it to work by taking out the "&page1", so I edited Kires post to have that change. Then I clicked it again and it didn't work. Then I clicked it again and it did.

Perhaps the site is just running low on bandwidth? oO

[EDIT - yeapp. the site is just getting too many hits. Thats a good thing I suppose.]

I emailed Norm Coleman about it. I'm still young enough to believe that actually matters. xD

                    Hooray for corporate greed.

I think this actually upsets me enough to write a letter to my designated representatives.

wont pass, just far too much opposition to such a bill. i wish green would eat these people alive.

I assumed this was more like to protect companies that actually have the capacity to actually publish stuff from being sued by johnny nobody for "ripping off" of their generic anime cat person when they put out some stupid book to appeal to 13 year olds.

That just doesn't seem right. It's ridiculous that the rights of artists arn't respected. -.- It's all about the bloody money.

                              Re: the Orphan Act

You'll probably never see the reverse happen: corporations who sit on patents to keep from the market products that are vital to our future will never have their 'rights' nullified(eg. Chevron and the NiMH electric vehicle battery).

It's always about taking from the bottom to give to the top, who already own more than the bottom do anyway...

I used to think we lived in the United States of America. If this actually does pass(unlikely it may be), it will add to the increasing volumes of evidence that we don't.
