It finally came out today! I missed both the DC and GC versions, so I'm thinking about DLing this. I've been waiting for about a half a year for this. Problem is, I suck HORRIBLY at side-scrolling and top-down shooters, but I like the premise and originality of this so much that I think I'm gonna give the full version a shot. For anyone who's played it, would the difficulty level be described as "punishing"?

Re: Ikaruga XBLA
Punishing isnt even the word. More like ****ING INSANE. It would be hard enough without the whole color changing thing, but since thats in there it makes it even harder.
All enemies and bullets are either black or white. You can change your ships color to black or white on the fly while playing. Black things wont hurt you if your black, white things wont hurt you when your white. Depending on which color you are youll do certain damage to enemies, etc. Theres also almost ALWAYS both colors of enemies, laserbeams, and bullets flying across the screen at all times.
Check this out. And this guy is REALLY good at playing.

Re: Ikaruga XBLA
It does have the option, or at least the GC version that I have does, but it only recommends doing it if your TV is built to turn sideways.
This game is very hardcore. If you aren't into sidescrolling shooters, don't waste your time downloading it.
These, after RPGs, are my favorite types of games, and this one is the best.My kind of life’s no better off
If I’ve got the map or if I’m lost.

Re: Ikaruga XBLA
It's more of a reflex based puzzle game than a straight up shooter. After the first level they focus less on destroying stuff (although there's still tons of stuff to shoot) and more on navigating the traps and areas. It is hardcore. But it's also more forgiving than most SHUMPS seeming as half the bullets don't actually kill you. But I like the strategy involved.
