So I decided NOT to buy a 360 right away.

I'm getting one in a couple weeks. Games I know I want are Oblivion, Morrowind,
All 3 Halos, Fable and Fallout3 when it comes out (which is one of the main reasons I decided to get a new console). What else would you recommend? What games are must haves? I've never played anything on Xbox before in my life so I never payed as much attention to it as I have the PS.

Also, what should I be aware of as far as the system's concerned? How bad are the technical problems really? I don't do a lot of downloading of stuff, so should I bother getting a larger HD for it?

    Anything else I should know?

Gears of War, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Orange Box and Rock Band are what I'd consider must-haves.

Saint's Row, Dead Rising, Lost Planet are all pretty good too and probably only about $20 now.

About Lost Planet, I'd wait until Lost Planet Colonies is released in may before buying it. $30, and includes all the extra maps/skins in one nice package, plus new modes.

If you're online, definitely get some Microsoft points to pay for a few XBLA games. There are some clunkers out there not worth $10 (800 points), but there are some good ones. Geometry Wars for $5 is a must, as is Lumines Live now that they dropped the price (if you are into Tetris-style puzzle games). You're pretty much safe with anything from Tetsuya Mizuguchi and Q Entertainment (Lumines, Rez, Every Extend Extra Extreme). Puzzle Quest would also be a good choice, although I've only played this on the DS. If you enjoy strategy board games, Catan is good, and if you like competitive/cooperative card games, I'd say to pick up Spades for $5. And I'm probably in the minority here, but Space Giraffe is definitely worth the $5, if only for the retro Tempest gameplay and the video game in-jokes and overt weirdness. If you've never done drugs, you'll never need to after playing this game. And if you have, all the better.

As for retail games, I'd recommend Rock Band with no hesitation, and even though I've yet to start playing it, I would recommend Bioshock. And if you're into RTS games, I think EndWar is gonna be great when it's released in September (or whenever they pushed it back until). These other guys can probably give you more ideas for retail games.

Oh, and if you've not played Psychonauts or Indigo Prophesy in their (inferior) PS2 versions, I HIGHLY recommend either finding these used or just downloading for $15 from the Marketplace.

Dont get a bigger HD unless you plan on downloading tons of movies off XBL. Mijnes got the 20gig it came with, and Ive still got about 13gigs free. Itsjust filled with game data and arcade games.

The newer 360s on the market right now have failure rates sub 10%, still terrible but much better than 30%.

              As for games:

Halo 3, Call of Duty 2 and 4 (3 was made by another developer and is garbage), BioShock, Dead Rising, Gears of War, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Skate.

Re: So I decided to buy a 360

I got an Elite with the 120 gig last August, and am currently at about 67 gigs available. And I've never downloaded any movies, and very few TV shows. My space is mainly taken up by a bunch of trailers, E3/ComiCon videos, and the 93 games on my, "My Games" list. Granted, a lot of those are XBLA trial games, but 20 are full games (plus I have another 10 XBLA games between 2 arcade discs), plus I have a decent amount of demos, and two full Xbox Originals games (Psychonauts and Indigo Prophesy), with another (Dreamfall) possibly being downloaded soon.

Oh, and I don't even want to venture a guess as to how many gigs of Rock Band stuff I have.

Not trying to brag, but merely to comment that it is possible to fill up your hard drive more quickly than you might initially think.

Skate is pretty damn well amazing, everything else has pretty much been mentioned.

Devil May Cry 4 is pretty sweet too.

Orange Box is really only meant to be played on PC.

                    srsly, gabe newell hates consoles.

Doesn't that game system overheat a lot?

Tenchu Z is pretty awesome. Its just a fun Ninja Game. Everything else I'd suggest has already been said.
