Re: Star Ocean: The End of Time
I'll say this much: be patient for the first ten hours or so. The first few story arcs are really a drag but it starts picking up once you enter Aquea? (the kingdom of water), and really gets good once you take off into space. I have a lot of friends who never made it past the five hour mark because they got bored, and it's really a shame. I actually put it down for over a year (about five hours in) before coming back to it, and it started to get really good.
There's an action puzzle in a mine (near Kirlsa, I think) that's nearly impossible. Just use an FAQ or you'll be stuck there forever.
Oh yeah, and make sure you enable Item Creation as soon as possible. It's insanely fun and kind of useful as well. It's in Peterny, and some people go through the whole game without ever seeing it... so make sure you don't miss it.
The story is good but the real pleasure in Star Ocean games is the deep gameplay.
If you haven't had the chance to play Star Ocean: The Second Story, and don't mind an old-school feel, I highly recommend picking it up. It's an RPG gameplay masterpiece, the characters are awesome, and it's a hell of a lot of fun to boot.

Re: Star Ocean: The End of Time
I liked Star Ocean: The Second Story infinitely more than Till The End of Time. The item creation system was more refined. The characters had more personality. The battle system wasn't as clumsy with the hit detetction and special attacks. Etc.
I still managed to enjoy Till The End of Time a lot, in spite of all my complaints. They needed to get rid of most of the backwater underdeveloped RPG planet sections and kick things into gear faster than they did, however. I never did manage to attempt the final bosses that Riotsword mentioned in Till The End of Time, I just didn't have the motivation. But I did get two save files for both Claude and Rena in SO2 with characters at Lv.255 with ultimite equipment and beating all those bosses to a pulp.
It's one of the few games where I went that extra mile. I loved the Cave of Trails.Last edited by Toaster; 04-09-2008, 02:41 PM.

Re: Star Ocean: The End of Time
What a rip-off.
This auction ends in 5 hours, roughly.
Or there's the other option: Do you have a PSP? Because the original is getting a complete re-make for it, and The Second Story is getting a coat of polish added to it. I'm excited for it.

The....*** SPOILERS ***
ending totally ruin the whole series. It makes all that happen before, totally pointless, since it was just a game that some freaks in another dimesion played for fun.
All that detailed information about the different worlds and people meant nothing since it was just made up.

I liked SO:3 until about halfway through. I finished it, but it was hard.

Re: Star Ocean: The End of Time
When the heck do you go to a water kingdom? I'm guessing that is after you do this statue puzzle with these chess like peices which allows you to go to this lower area where you can't do anything though it is suppose to allow you warp to someplace.Originally posted by Wavelength View PostI'll say this much: be patient for the first ten hours or so. Re: Star Ocean: The End of Time
Yeah, there's Aeryglyph (the kingdom of air) and Aquea (the kingdom of water), or something like that. That's all I was referring to, and it's before the chess pieces puzzle... although, very soon after said puzzle, the game picks up into what I'd consider to be its climax. The events in the next five hours, some of them literally gave me chills, and the battles got harder to boot.
Passage from Parch to Plenty. Ha. What an awesome dungeon name. I'm serious, I love that name.
And about the plot twist...
*** SPOILERS ***
I didn't really care about it one way or the other. It was a little overwrought and even a bit stupid, but I don't think it made the series meaningless at all. What if we're all just part of a game? Our survival still matters to us; we still care about it and we still, in theory, have some semblance of free will. If I were Leon S Geeste I'd STILL be ****** that Wavelength keeps leaving me behind on Expel to die a horrible death, game character or not.
