    I know I'm Stupid. lol

I saw on the back of the cover that it shows a picture of a party taking on a monster surrounded by lava.

    1) Is this a dungeon?

    2) If so, how do you put it in a dungeon?

Also, I'd like to make an underground City in a cave. Any ideas how I can set this up?

You can choose the background for event battles (battles that are triggered through any event, rather than randomly). I'm not sure exactly how it chooses the background for random battles, I think it's just based on the location. Perhaps on the world map you can make this happen in "lava" areas.

As far as a city in a cave, your best bet is to just use a dungeon model and be smart about the layout. Include a lot of wide passageways, doors to rooms, etc., and make the place look as live-able as possible. Have people milling about. The best example I saw of this is the "Ruins of Kem Dar" dungeon in Crythania's "Raiders of Lekunder." It really looks like an underground, abandoned town.

Have no way to see it so any help would be appreciated but that's a good idea.

You can also use the 'lava' terrain in dungeons, and that's how you put that environment into random battles.

I agree with Wavelength re: RoL. I was duly impressed with the "abandoned city" he made out of a dungeon. One of the best dungeon designs I've seen in an RPGM3 game.

Actually, I looked closely. That would be a member of the party using a meteor magic attack in a ruins dungeon background on a Black Dragon.

Actually, you can only do lava traps, the dungeons can't have lava terrain. They have UG Cave, Cavern, and Mine, and then manmade styles like towns, castles, ruins, etc.

Obi was talking about the "dungeon interior" that you choose, which defines what the floor and such look like. I imagine that changes the default background for random battles. I'm not sure whether or not lava is one of the selectable interiors, but he knows the game in and out, so by default I'm going to assume that it is.

Lava's there, but it's just lava running through cracks in the ground.

I'm sure if you choose the fire cave dungeon you would get this, yes?

Good question. I want to make an underground city for a mine dungeon in an area of my 2nd world map. Any idea how to do that, besides making the sky dark?

No, no, no, don't use a an actual town for your underground town. Make a dungeon, but instead of twisty, maze-like passages and a linear design, just make a main square and doors leading to whatever buildings you want the town to have; then put the characters you want inside the town. You don't have to worry about sky then.

By the by, can a character run a shop if they're not in a building exclusively labelled "shop?"
Ashen: What do we even know about these guys?
Val: For one, they're addicted to cliches. Of all the people they could've kidnapped, they decided to take the one adolescent girl in the village. It's just like the storybooks.

Yes, a character CAN run a shop anywhere in the game. However, if you use even ONE shopkeeper that is not one of the defaults (the inn, the shops, the tavern, etc), you will NEED to make a variable to keep track of how much gold the party currently has, and as part of the shopkeeper's event code, you need to do a variable check to see if the party can actually afford the item. If you do not do this, the party will be able to buy any item without even having enough gold on hand to legitimately purchase it. If you go this route (it IS possible and, to me, preferrable and more flexible than using the default shops), you will probably want to use event battles exclusively (ie-no random battles) to make keeping track of the gold MUCH easier. There are ways to have custom shops while using random encounters....it involves some complex auto events in every area where you fight monsters. I'm not sure of the exact details, but you can probably find the info in either the tips and tricks thread or the frequent newbie questions thread. Maybe someone else can find it and link to it.
