    Marvel's "Secret Invasion"

Captain America is dead. Nick Fury is missing. House of M removed mostly all of the mutants on the World. The Civil War divided the rest of the heroes, leaving them in disarray. The Hulk turned New York into a warzone.

The time for the invasion has come.

May contain a Spoiler or two...:

I wouldn't mind getting into the whole Marvel Universe if it wasn't so confusing at the outset. I mean, where the **** would I even begin?

Plus I have that whole aversion to comics, thing.

Comics are too complicated now. Seems every few months there's a new big event you have to follow 10 different titles to get all of. And the stories just get more random and nonsensical until they do something to retcon the whole thing. It's easier to just read about what happened than to try and read it in the books.

That said if they'd finally bring back Young Avengers I'd buy it. I'll be picking up YA Presents once it's finished.

Ultimate Spider-Man. The main Marvel U is just too far gone.

Y'know, looking back, I never take superhero deaths seriously. You know they'll just end up coming back.

....Except for Indigo from DC's The Outsiders! Man, my favorite memebr of that series and she's killed off! (She had a cool name too!)

(....Well, okay. I like Thunder too.)

The reason for all the crossovers and stuff is to create publicity and to get readers to buy comics that they normally wouldn't buy. Comic companies are ALWAYS trying to get new readers and Marvel and DC have shown us that there's little they won't do in order to achieve that.

I'm thinking that maybe Marvel and DC are wising up that people are beginning to get event fatigue, so hopefully they'll lay off for a while after Secret Invasion and Final Crisis.

At the very least I know some writers are getting ****** that they're finding that they have no control over the books they're writing because every other month they have to tie it into some event and follow another writer's script.

It used to be that the companies would do events in the summer and it would only affect one issue of a series. Now there's year-round buildup to stuff and mini-events and crap all year round. It's ridiculous.

The best way to get into comics is to just pick one up and start reading them. Might not know what's going on at first... that's why you can get back issues.

I'm hyped over this series though. All the other past Marvel events that have been going on for the last few years have lead up to this one. That's some creative foreshadowing there.

Maybe I'm just being too cynical but I'm thinking the years of lead-ins are just going to boil down to "oh yeah, the reason he/she acted so out of character back then is because they were secretly a skrull" not something they actually had planned at the time.

                        Re: Marvel's "Secret Invasion"

Nope. The Skrull invasion actually started beginning since way back from Avengers Disassembled. The same writer, Brian Bendis, has been planting clues to it in the books he's written.
