    Hear It From the Troops

This site is very interesting. It contains journal entries and photos and stories of those serving in Iraq right now. Definately worth a look.

One man is crawling after being incapacitated but they still shoot at him"Roger, he's wounded, him him,hit the truck and him,Roger".

I bet they call themselves Christians too.God just loves people who have no mercy for the wounded doesn't he..........

    I hate humans.

      Geneva Convention my ass!

What do you expect, Ferrell? It's war. People are at the point where many mental faculties(or is it facilities?) are on the back-burner and only base human traits, such as fear, hatred, sadism, and panic, are present.

Given that they're many hundreds of feet up in a helicoptor, it's rather difficult to understand how they could rationally be afraid. Is the injured man going to throw a rock at their apache and crash it from 500+ feet away? Quite clearly, a war crime was committed on tape. In fact, when this video was revealed, there was worldwide outrage. I even posted on it about a year ago.

I found the soldier's journals much more revealing and interesting. People having accidently shot three year old kids, thinking they were grown men with AK47s, watching other soldiers kill people at checkpoints because they had itchy trigger fingers and didn't bother to issue warnings, injured veterans coming home to poverty and denied healthcare by our government who even has the audacity to call them back to service when they are bed-ridden...

Not all about this war is bad, but it's safe to say this government's intentions were ill and we've definately done that country and it's people much more harm than good, without regard to international and Constitutional law, but at least there's hope; hearing about that asshole being removed from his 'spider hole' makes me happy, as does the fact that Iraqi children have hope for the future, in spite of their being blown to pieces by our warplanes and by suicide bombers we(Killed their families, friends, destroyed their farmland, ect.) ticked off on a regular basis. If only the little Saddamlings we got here in D.C. would be disposed of in a similar manner. The sorts of filth that these far conservative authoritarians compose have no place holding positions of power in any free society.

Awfully grainy pic, Terr. Who is that shaking Saddam's hand?

And I was speaking of humans at war in general.

Plus, I had no idea that it was from a helicopter, or that the people being fired upon were unarmed(I didn't watch the video, my internet connection is too weak, and I don't have the patience to sit for a long time while a game or video is downloaded, etc.). If these were the circumstances, why haven't these soldiers been court-martialed? Oh, wait, nevermind.

That's rumsfeld or whoeve, and seriously, **** you who criticize what men do during war, I've had long talks with 2 of my family members, one who was a fighter pilot during world war 2 and one who was in infantry during vietnam, no matter what the technology, if you think they're trying to harm your comrades during war, you'll kill them. If you think your life is in danger, you'll kill them. Simple as that. You don't deal with the morality untill later.
"At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. "For the first time, I finally understand what Monet was trying to get across in her work."

Re: Hear It From the Troops

I had two grandpas that served in WWII, both of which are dead now, but the one I was able to talk to years ago did things that he regrets and told me he wishes he never served. When motivated by fear of death, reprimand from 'superiors', or accidentally hurting a civilian or comrade and not knowing who's ready to cut you to ribbons with an AK, or even under situations of peer pressure mixed with orders from higher up(like Abu Gharib), most people lose control. But in both videos where people are killed from afar, the soldiers appear calm, perhaps desensitized to the point whatever fears they have has no emotional effect, or maybe just following orders and don't care and want to get it over with. But neither case would make the Geneva convention obsolete, and it was agreed to for a reason. I believe whoever ordered the attacks should be punished for them, not the one carrying them out(s they tend to face reprimands and even prison sentences). Otherwise you don't get at the source of the problem. It's easy to push a red button from many hundreds of feet, or even miles away if you disregard those you might harm on the side, but for those going into people's homes or trying to avoid improvisational explosive devices on the ground, who have itchy trigger fingers and don't know who is going to attack, it sounds like hell. Among other people I know in Iraq, I have an uncle there right now, but he's in one of the not so bad areas. So far, at least.

Re: Hear It From the Troops

Soldiers in war kill because they have to. Because if they don't themselves or their comrades will be killed. The thing is, the enemy is fighting for the same reasons. Or worse. Considering the nations we fight are usually not free democracies our "enemies" often don't have a choice to fight like the soldiers in out volunteer army. As far as I'm concerned war proves that either humans are not God's children or God isn't who we pretend He is because we are without doubt the most despicable vermin on this planet.

When we leave Iraq. There'll be a civil war and the Iranians and Serbians will come in and restore Iraq to its former self with another dictator. If we wanted to keep it a democracy we would've invaded all of those countries surrounding it. I thought we should've just left them alone and help the African people who're dying from civil wars. But I guess they can't repay us in oil though..........

There already is a civil was in Iraq. It's been going on since Saddam was removed from power(And he was found many months after that).
